The Puffle Party music from Club Penguin was "completely ripped off" of Coconut Mall from Mario Kart Wii, as directly admitted by its composer Chris Hendricks.

@firemaster8325 These appear to be locations in Kyoto (where Nintendo's HQ is) arranged in the manner of a Monopoly board, e.g. "Toufukuji" is Tofuku-ji, a Buddhist temple in Kyoto. Thank you very much for your inquiry!

During the famous 2000 "Super Mario 128" tech demo, a presentation was given by Shigeru Miyamoto showcasing his quirky sense of humor, whereby he compares the gathered Marios to stir-fried rice, and fries them.

Masanori Sato loves posting personal artwork that is merely a fanciful interpretation of the Mario universe instead of artwork that was ever intended to be used for any Nintendo projects. Nothing he posts is official unless explicitly stated otherwise by him.

@carpal128 Please note that this turned out to be a misunderstanding and I deleted the post a few hours after posting it. Unfortunately, during the brief time the post was up screenshots of it were made that keep being reposted. I truly apologize once again for this error.

At the 1991 CES trade show, Nintendo's booth allowed attendees to stand in front of a green screen, which would then be overlaid over Super Mario World, so they could "be in the game" with Mario. The bad syncing on the overlay gives the footage an extremely amateurish appearance.

In Super Paper Mario, Squirps and Luvbi are mutually incompatible and only one of them can exist at a time. If the point where Luvbi leaves the party is skipped and the player returns to Chapter 4, Luvbi will "take Squirps's job" and be the one who shoots enemies with lasers.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, performing wheelies with the Wario Bike on the moving platform in the Smashville stage is dangerous. The bike may become caught on the platform, which will cause it to shoot into the sky at incredible speeds, killing Wario.

@jacobking5000 While it may look different due to the distortion, it actually is the same image! It simply has been pulled out at the corners to simulate a higher FOV. By replicating the distortion it lines up exactly. I hope this is acceptable!

In 1996, Nintendo was seemingly very fond of a single particular stock photo of the sky, so that it ended up on the cartridge artwork of three different games released in that year: Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, and Pilotwings 64.

@KainYusanagi @twumblunni While I completely agree that this would be a good reasoning if they did not want to buy more CDs, but Nintendo is known to have owned many dozens of these CDs at that time: github.com/Render96/Rende… so I do not believe minimizing CDs was a concern! I hope this is acceptable!

@twumblunni @MarioBrothBlog And those two images are the only images of the sky across the entire CD, so it's all they had to work with if they didn't want to buy another CD. Thus, it was more thrifty than I was thinking, because I thought there'd be more than just two images of the sky on the texture CD.

@KainYusanagi Please note that this photo is from a texture CD, a collection of images purchased together. Nintendo has owned many of these at the time and did not have to pay for any photos individually; as such, I hope it is acceptable for me to infer they must have really liked this one!

@MarioBrothBlog Seems less like they were fond of it and more that they were being thrifty, only having to buy the rights to one piece of art and then use it in multiple labels/cart art.

In Donkey Kong Bananza, signs appear that indicate that Tiny Kong owns a bank. The 1999 official German website for Donkey Kong 64 claimed she was a tax official and managed the savings of DK Island. Whether this is a deep cut reference or an astounding coincidence is unknown.

In a 2010 interview, Shigeru Miyamoto revealed that the reason so many Mario enemies have repetitive names in Japanese (and by extension in English, e.g. Koopa Troopa, Cheep Cheep) is in honor of Takashi Tezuka, who calls himself "Ten Ten".

In Paper Mario: Color Splash, a Shy Guy is trapped in a water wheel after being bullied. The internal name for this pose is "crucify". This suggests that the original intent may have been for him to actually evoke a crucifixion before it was decided this may be in bad taste.
