This is what family is about. Helping each other out. We'd be there ourselves but we've booked a cruise around New Zealand that week. At our age every trip is precious. You never know how much time you have left. I'm sure our daughter understands

Update: We've told our daughter she's welcome to stay the last week of January. The builders will be in all week so there's no hot water or heating but we hope she doesn't mind letting them in each morning. It would really help us out. Nothing beats Cornwall in winter. Hopefully the school won't mind the kids missing a few days.

This sounds like a parody but I have a very similar situation with some close friends. Boomers won’t let their grown kids and grandkids use the vacation house this summer because they “need” the rental income on it (to pay for the extended cruise they’re taking).
