@7NewsDC The problem is not aggregating teens. The problem is the lack of real consequences for any ensuing malfeasance. Teens all over the 1st world seem to have no problem gathering in large crowds in city centers. The difference they almost never engage in public unruly behavior.

“Part of the challenge here is that the teens who were gathering there are knowledgeable about what the law is,” explained Council Chairman Phil Mendelson. bit.ly/4t11A64

@GMarshRN @schuttsm @HSAddict697 It's definitely bad in places. Extremely competitive for even low level jobs. But the original post, and most online posts, are more for college grads who don't apply to those jobs. They're hell bent on using that marketing degree or they'll starve on principle

@jjjericho16 @schuttsm @HSAddict697 That’s the issue. They can’t get jobs anywhere while hunting in their field. Target, Starbucks, Wendy’s, local gas station… the old “fall back” jobs are not hiring them either. I didn’t truly understand it until I watched my kids and their friends the last few years. It’s bad.

another boomer who simply doesn't understand what the job market and housing market are like right now two college-educated engineers that are unemployed homes cost $500k+ in most medium sized metro areas now living with your parents may have been a sign of laziness in your generation, it is not in my generation. Please be a little more understanding
Charles Murray@charlesmurray

Moving back home isn't a problem. Staying unemployed as an able-bodied adult living off your parents is a big problem. Being unable to get a job in your preferred field is not an excuse.

@HSAddict697 @4rvn5 @schuttsm Well thas true too. Just depends on your interview/job I guess. I could see listing them as just line items. Or just a self-employed section.

@4rvn5 @schuttsm @jjjericho16 This is where u are wrong, I sold shoes, jewlery, audio/video, receptionist. That's called a work history. Then I put that on my resume and got my real job.Y'all start somewhere. better than explaining your gap on resume, 'well I just sit in mom's basement until I get recruited"

@schuttsm @4rvn5 @HSAddict697 Most young folks aren't; be it post college starting or a layoff. They don't move cities. They don't change fields. And they will sit for months or years without working anything...I don't get it.

@4rvn5 @HSAddict697 @schuttsm You can do both. Zero reason to be sitting on your bucket an entire year later. I would hope submitting apps is a daily, or weekly thing anyways

@jjjericho16 @HSAddict697 @schuttsm eh, if you have the flexibility to not work, i'd argue spending an hour submitting an application, developing a skill, or attending a networking event is better than an hour spent working at a coffee shop for $15

@4rvn5 @HSAddict697 @schuttsm Correct. You can, and should, have jobs that don't go on a resume. Particularly if you're not working for an entire year.

@schuttsm @jjjericho16 @HSAddict697 Being a college graduate is so hard because everyone around you thinks despite your college education your too fucking stupid to understand what a stopgap measure is. You've done all that for people to think your sitting in a house doing nothing unless told like a roomba

@jakebraekes @schuttsm @HSAddict697 Amen. My house didn't appreciate 300k from demand or fabulous upgrades. That's inflation. That's also why my money is in the market. It's not being pumped by value. It's being pumped by printed money. And yes fraud and the like.

@Fuquet @schuttsm You do indeed have to leave it off. In some regard that makes sense. If you're super over qualified an employer will think you're short term.

@jjjericho16 @schuttsm It's not always ez to acquire an entry level job when you have advanced qualifications/experience. You almost have to leave that off or maybe pretend you're a felon lol. (I'm only 1/3 kidding)

@PawnHeart8 @kikisknees I'm actually young, and probably making more money than you. But instead of snarky Internet comments I actually would like to talk to my peers and help them be more successful.

@zackpilled @schuttsm The mistake people make today is leading with college. People jump the shark on that move, while explaining to Boomers that the market is different. Yes, yes it is. That applies to college too.

@jjjericho16 @schuttsm I’m speaking from experience, you won’t find a good first job after college, while settling for working at Walmart. You’ll get depressed, drained physically and emotionally, you are better off taking 0 income as long as you can before you bite the bullet take a no skill wagie gig

@texasrunnerDFW Not for nothing, but that 175k in 1996 in the S&P to today would be about 3.3 mil. You figure the money spent on rent vs mortgage about the same, and pretending 0 home upgrades...a home is not an investment

This actually *has* ended well, for many people For example, if a young family did this in CA in 1996, they likely watched both their income and home value go up Today, they have a paid off home worth at least 1.5 million And these folks are loud about this being a successful method for wealth building, because it worked for them Much quieter are the people who did this and lost a job in the dot com crash or bought in 2004 and had to sell the home at a loss in 2008—but they exist too

How to stay broke: Work hard to make $200,000/yr. Then go and buy a $700,000 house. …This never ends well.

the solution is to lobby congress, state legislature, everyone to fix immigration (charles isn't do that) at least its an important part of the solution. Had the INA been stopped in 1990 we wouldn't be in this spot, and it happened on boomers watch Sure, get a crappy job in the meantime, but good grief, its absurd to think that the problem is "those lazy entitled brats"

@zackpilled @schuttsm You can't afford to move out of your parents. The objective should be a job. While having a job, finding a better job. Moving out is way down the list of important things, especially if it's free or really cheap.

@jjjericho16 @schuttsm You aren’t moving out of your parents working at Walmart or the temp job, and it won’t help your resume either, if anything it will put you behind your competition who can focus more on applying and interviewing or gaining skills without having to get drained 8 hrs a day for no $
