Nigeria has regained its Frontier Market status from FTSE Russell, marking a major boost for the country’s stock market and global investor confidence. The upgrade, effective September 2026, follows improved foreign exchange liquidity and easier capital repatriation, key issues that previously led to its downgrade in 2023. This reclassification means global funds tracking frontier markets will now reallocate investments into Nigerian equities, driving higher capital inflows, increased trading activity, and better market pricing. It also signals renewed confidence in reforms across the financial system, particularly efforts led by the Nigerian Exchange Group to improve transparency and accessibility.

BREAKING: APC crisis deepens as Hafsatu Danladi led faction emerges, lays claim to the party leadership. ...INEC put on notice to derecognise the Nentawe Yilwatda led NWC. In what can be described as an unexpected twist of events, a new faction on Wednesday emerged from the ongoing leadership disputes of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC),Guardien can authoritatively report. The crisis, which commenced a few days ago, took a new dimension on Wednesday after a failed reconciliation meeting conveyed at the instance of the president. According to reports, the Nentawe Yilwatda led faction of the ruling party made an offer of 40 billion naira to the Hafsatu Danladi led faction in order to end the crisis and douse the tension, but the latter vehemently refused, signaling a narrow chances for the ruling party to field a presidential candidate in 2027. Indications are high that baring any last-minute intervention by the powers that be at the villa, INEC may be compelled by the courts to seize recognition of Nentawe Yilwatda faction arising from the flawed March 27 party's national convention in Abuja, pending the determination of the substantive suit. When our correspondent contacted the faction led by Nentawe Yilwatda, he confirmed the ongoing leadership crisis but declined further comment, when we sought his opinion on what we knew regarding some APC governors being behind the plot to remove him. ©️Guardien

Now a Disgraced Country Indeed Today, as the world marks World Health Day, we must pause for honest reflection. Nigeria, a nation of over 200 million people, continues to grapple with one of the weakest healthcare systems in the world. Our primary healthcare structure is almost comatose. We now record worse infant mortality outcomes than India, a country with a larger population, while health insurance coverage in Nigeria remains below 5%. These are not just statistics; they are a painful indictment of our priorities. Recent disclosures by the Honourable Minister of Health show that out of the ₦218 billion appropriated for healthcare capital expenditure, only about ₦36 million has been released. This is deeply troubling. At the same time, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has projected over ₦135 billion for legal expenditures. Let us reflect on this. The amount earmarked for election-related litigation is far higher than what has been made available for primary healthcare, the very foundation of a nation’s wellbeing. This is the same primary healthcare system expected to serve millions of Nigerians and support critical institutions such as: 1. University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin City 2. University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar 3. University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada 4. University College Hospital, Ibadan 5. Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife 6. University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin 7. Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Irrua 8. University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku-Ozalla, Enugu 9. Jos University Teaching Hospital, Jos 10. Aminu Kano University Teaching Hospital, Kano 11. Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Lagos 12. University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Maiduguri 13. Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital, Nnewi 14. University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, Port Harcourt 15. Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto 16. University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Uyo 17. Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria 18. Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki 19. Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi 20. Federal Medical Centre, Yola These institutions represent hope for millions. Yet, they remain underfunded, overstretched, and burdened by systemic neglect. A nation that prepares more for electoral disputes than for the health of its citizens is a nation that has lost its way. We must begin to ask the difficult but necessary questions: What are our true priorities? What kind of nation are we building? And for whom? Healthcare and education are not optional; they are the foundation of national development. Any country that neglects them undermines its own future. Nigeria must urgently reorder its priorities. We must invest in the health and wellbeing of our people, strengthen our institutions, and build a system that works for all, not just a few. A new Nigeria is POssible. -PO

Alongside other leaders of the ADC, I am participating in a peaceful protest against the perceived partisanship of the electoral umpire. This patriotic action is driven by our collective commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy and ensuring that our electoral process remains credible, fair, and transparent. We must resist any attempt to undermine democratic institutions or pave the way for authoritarian tendencies. Our stance is not just political, it is a duty to protect the integrity of our nation and preserve the will of the people. - AWT

Mr Obi, there are 21 registered political parties by @inecnigeria in Nigeria as of today. Almost half of these parties have elected representatives in both national and sub national governments in Nigeria. The party on whose back you contested (before running away as usual) still has elected representatives in the national assembly and control Abia State. Your attempt to paint Nigeria as a one party state because of the self inflicted shot to leg of your current political SPV (The ADC) is an insult to every sensible Nigerian. Your agenda is dead on arrival
Peter Obi@PeterObi

We, members and leaders of the ADC, and other well-meaning Nigerians, lovers of democracy, are saying that our democracy must not be killed. We say NO to a one-party system and for that today we’re calling out Nigerians who believe in unity, peace, and security of our country to join us as we defend democracy in our land. A New Nigeria is POssible. -PO

Professor Mahmud Yakubu, former INEC chairman followed the rule of law and recognized the lawful processes that produced the David Mark-led leadership of the ADC, much to the displeasure of Tinubu who was away then on medical tourism. When he came back, much to his chagrin, ADC had already jumped the booby trap that would have been detonated by him, so what to do? Nafiu Garba Gombe Iscariot who had been a willing participant in the party's meetings and activities was quickly mobilized to go to court just like Abure and Lamidi Apapa of Labour Party. We have six geo-political zones in this country and NE is only one of them, which means Nafiu was only one, out of the 6 that held Deputy vice chairmen position, if I am not mistaken, representing the zones in Nigeria, so why should he lay claims now that he didn't resign or was not part of the leadership change that produce David Mark? Is it in ADC constitution that if the chairman and other Exco members resign, only Nafiu Iscariot should be left and the party leadership handed over to him? Does this even make sense to any discerning mind? This INEC and the ruling APC have taken Nigerians for fools and it's left for us to show them we are not.

BBC Africa anchor, Waihiga Mwaura made this post about his interview with @aonanuga1956. Screen 1: "I spoke to Nigerian President Tinubu's comms advisor Bayo Onanuga on #FocusOnAfrica about the recent attack in Jos (22+ deaths), why President Tinubu met the affected families only at the airport and why there have been no arrests so far." Then Dali Viq, a Kenyan, commented. Screen 2: "Terrible... Sorry Nigerians. You don't have a government and only God can literally save you. May the Almighty God rescue you and give you justice and peace." Me: As a Nigerian just listen to Onanuga and tell me if you are not ashamed that this is the best we can have as a presidential spokesman. He is not even ashamed even when telling obvious lies and so incoherent. #unmutedthepodcast #tegatalks
