If you're interested in Japanese SF a good place to start is with the Speculative Japan anthologies from Kurodahan Press. They cover a range of authors and the translations are very well done.

Sam Kieth’s cover to DARKER IMAGE #1! Darker Image #1 was designed to showcase the debut of 3 new characters in 3 separate stories by Jim Lee, myself and Sam Kieth. It was your first introduction to Deathblow, Bloodwulf and The Maxx. Jim and I were excited to share the stage with Sam as we were tremendous fans of all the he had done at Marvel & DC. Sam was game to join our little showcase and he provided such a stunning cover that neither Jim or I figured we needed to offer variants of our own. This was Sam’s official debut with Image. Jim and I would almost always have covers for #1 issues that we participated in but once I saw Sam’s and Jim saw it, we figured that we didn’t need to contribute. This was more than enough. Darker Image #1 debuted in Jan. 1993 a whopping 1 million copies. With one single cover by Sam. It’s a great book and the fun we each had jumps out from every story. Proud to have shared this experience. Why no Darker Image #2 you ask? Because audience reaction to each character was so positive that each received his own series as a result. Fun, fun memories. Rest In Peace, Sam Kieth!

So unfortunate to hear Sam Kieth passed away. Though gone, my love for his work on The Maxx and his other projects lives on.

Sam Kieth was the artist whose work makes you feel like it’s more than okay to take the big swings. It’ll lead to making something you were destined to and proud of. His art showed you that you don’t have to follow a path. That you can unleash yourself upon the world.

Damn. A mega influence on my art psyche. Even have Maxx 1-3 hung up on my workshop wall.

Dawn of an Evil Millennium (1988): Wow. Shinya Tsukamoto by way of Mike Jittlov and Kenneth Anger. Formally chaotic but with stunningly precise and kinetic camerawork and editing. Begins as pastiche before becoming something new, strange and beautiful, even poignant. Loved it

@Bengal_DPT heating pad and a good 10-20 miles of cycling and heating pad again works for my knee issues.

Good friend is mid 30’s, in shape, never been hurt, works out 5x/week, has a fancy downtown gym membership. Recently had knee pain, went to see a physical therapist. Has a $100 copay. Every visit they passed him off to tech who watched him do tib raises. Never got better. Modern rehab is broken.
