Ian Holm played Napoleon in Time Bandits, but he also played him in ITV's 1974 drama Napoleon and Love, with Billie Whitelaw as Josephine (Stephanie Beacham's in it too!) Here he is with a young Tim Curry discussing literature...

The acting is 'at the gallop' as they say. It's all genuine good fun and there's plenty of wit to go along with the swordplay and the glamour. Plus it's colourful: no drab greys or leaden filters here!

Napoleon and Josephine: A Love Story (1987). ABC gives Napoleon the Dynasty treatment, in a lavish mini-series that traces the romance between the Emperor (Armand Assante) and his Josephine (Jacqueline Bisset). Balls, swords, cannons, flags, bonnet rouges and the Garde Impériale all make an appearance, with a lush romantic score by Bill Conti and Gerald Fried. Assante remains the only actor to have played Odysseus, Napoleon, Nietzsche, John Gotti and Mike Hammer.

To be fair to Zoo, they were a good dance troupe providing they had the right song to work with. Dancing to Roxy Music is one thing, but what do you do when it's O Superman by Laurie Anderson? Or the Theme From Hill Street Blues? They had to dance to those too!

Now you have to remember Top Of The Pops were still using dance troupes in 1983, and I think the two dancers next to Robert Smith were from Zoo. Zoo had replaced Legs & Co in late '81 to bring more of an edge to the dance routines on TOTP. The efforts was, erm, interesting...

Processed World, issue 2 (1981). This was a San Francisco underground 'zine aimed at office workers, mainly temps, working in clerical IT and programming jobs. 'Gizmo goes binary' was a photo story in issue 2 about how dull and exploitative temporary coding work could feel.
