I don't know what if anything Pres Trump will say about NATO tonight, but the damage is already done. The reliability at the core of this or any alliance is gone. Europeans no longer have confidence in the American pledge to come to their defense.

He can't withdraw US troops from Europe without Congress and Congress will under zero circumstances allow it. He can undermine NATO in other ways but not this.

@HoyasFan07 It won't happen until Trump pulls troops from Europe, but I think that's coming. The problem for Trump is that if he decides to dig in in the Middle East he'll have to pull the European Troops. He has to choose between global hegemon and NATO alliance. He can't have both.

They have been fighting Russia for 4 years and have shown that Russia cannot win a war against Europe.
Ukraine is an expert in drones and we therefore do not need to use missiles worth $1 million to shoot down drones like the US.

Iran's air force, navy & missiles have never posed a direct threat to the American homeland.
Before Trump's war, the US defense posture in the region had deterred the use of these conventional capabilities preemptively against our forces close to Iran or our allies.
Maybe they would have in the future, but that presumption was based on a guess/intuition/gut feeling, not (publicly revealed) intel.

Abandoning NATO would be the single greatest gift Donald Trump could ever give Vladimir Putin.

If the USA does not intend to honour the obligation to defend NATO because European countries dont join an offensive war of choice against Iran that we have absolutely no obligation to join, the USA membership of NATO is already worthless.
The NATO oath to defend each other is unconditional. If you dont intend to honour it because you are offended about disagreements that have nothing to do with the treaty obligation that you have sworn to uphold, your are not a realiable ally. Tresties with you are worthless and your word means nothing.
Unfortunately, that seems to be the case for the USA.
