We met @kunalsinha a couple years back when he was leading Glencore’s global recycling business. It quickly became clear that nobody had a better understanding of how the metals industry works, and how we can change it. When Kunal teamed up with Prof. Xiao Su and Dr. Johannes Elbert to start Valor, we knew we had to partner with them from day one. Critical minerals sit at the heart of electrification, AI infrastructure and advanced manufacturing. But the way we refine them today is incredibly inefficient and polluting - and existing refining capacity is heavily centered in China. For Europe and the US, this has created a growing strategic vulnerability. Valor is building a completely new approach to refining. Their novel electrochemical process can recover valuable metals such as gold, copper and rare earth elements from mixed feedstocks with 90% lower emissions and resource use, making it possible to build a new generation of cleaner and more flexible refining plants. Today, I'm excited to share the launch of @Seneca_Systems. Seneca's mission is end the wildfire threat across 500 million acres in the US and allied nations by 2035. 115 million Americans live with fire risk. Fire costs our nation ~$1 trillion annually. It destroys our most precious wild spaces and natural capital. And for those of us who call the American West our home, this is personal. We must face this head on. It is time that we bring firefighters the next-generation tools that heroes deserve. Seneca is building the modern fire arsenal for the highest risk period in our history.
