there are early signs of 5.5 being a competent ai research partner. several researchers let 5.5 run variations of experiments overnight given only a high level algorithmic idea, wake up to find completed sweep dashboards and samples, never having touched code or a terminal at all

We got early access to GPT-5.5. It's 3rd on Vending-Bench 2: better than GPT-5.4 but worse than Opus 4.7. However, it's on par with Opus 4.6 without any of the deception or power-seeking we saw from Opus 4.6 and Mythos. So bad behavior isn't necessary. Why is Claude doing it?

Anthropic’s Mythos raised the bar for AI vuln detection but kept it invite-only. GPT-5.5 is OpenAI’s answer, and it’s open to all. We had early access. Ran the benchmarks. Blackbox GPT-5.5 already beats whitebox GPT-5. Best pentesting model we’ve tested. Read our analysis: bit.ly/48OX7v6

Drone warfare has reached such a level that many fighters have lost hope of escaping or resisting. For example, the final strike on the barracks is terrifying.

We will adapt as we always have. Things are horrible rn bc most of the worlds armed forces are a part of the "first contact" for this kind of war. New strategies will form, new countermeasures will be created, things will march on as they always have. War is the strongest driver of human innovation. We are at our most creative when our lives are on the line.

For decades, biology textbooks have enshrined a simple rule: DNA is made by copying a template. After one enzyme unzips a DNA double helix into separate strands, another called a polymerase builds a complementary sequence, base by base, for each strand. Presto: two copies of the original DNA. But new research into how bacteria defend themselves from viruses now shows this synthesis rule isn’t absolute. Now, a team describes a bacterial enzyme that synthesizes DNA without a nucleic acid template, using its own structure as a guide. Learn more: scim.ag/4tTc5IA @NewsfromScience
