😲 The average worker has lost £65k since the financial crisis in 2008. 📉 Workers earn 17.5% less in real terms today because prices have risen faster than wages. 📈 Meanwhile, CEO and directors’ pay has boomed, along with profits and dividends. So, next time a well-paid director or politician tells you to ‘tighten your belt’ you know how to respond. We have a long way to go for workers to recover all that lost income. ✊ Facts and Figures, from Unite, helps our reps with the arguments and guidance needed to fuel the pay campaigns that are putting hundreds of millions back into the pockets of Unite members unitetheunion.org/fandf

📈Prices are still going up. While the rate of inflation is slowing, your cost of living is still 3.8% higher than it was a year ago. A pay rise below 3.8% is a pay cut. More to help you argue for a decent pay rise in February's Facts and Figures 🔽 unitetheunion.org/fandf

📈Overall inflation is still 3.8%. Food inflation is even higher at 5.1%. This cuts hard into workers' living standards. 📷But not supermarket profits: Tesco and Sainsbury's expect to make £4 billion this year. Do they think we can't see the link? unitetheunion.org/fandf

📊 The minimum wage rise doesn't even keep up with inflation. So workers who are already struggling, will struggle even more. The minimum wage is the very minimum an employer can legally get away with paying you. It is not a living wage.  Governments will never manage to boost workers' wages as effectively as trade union action can.

These conditions are all there, because we lack power over our bosses. The power is in the boss's hand. If we can form our own union, if we can have power, we can demand that we’re treated better. We can demand better hours, better contracts…”
