"What if the model labs just build this?" is one of the most common fears I hear from AI founders.
They could. That’s not the point. The real question is incentive.
Labs win by making one general model better for everyone. Startups win by going unreasonably deep on one workflow the labs will never prioritize.
Stop trying to prove they can't. Prove they won’t.

The new moat in the agent era is being the tool agents reach for.
A coding agent doesn’t reinvent a database. It wires up Supabase.
The best devtools companies will make themselves obvious to agents: easy to find, easy to reason about, easy to wire up.
Devtools are entering a golden age, but only for companies that realize they’re selling to agents now, not just humans.

The best founders explain the shift underneath it. That is the difference between selling a company and making a future legible.
