Perhaps. But the way I see it, that infrastructure is long gone and it’s not coming back. Most people listen on phones and consume music on-the-go unlike before. Even new cars/laptops don't even have CD players anymore. Fact is streaming is way more affordable for the average listener. If we are being true to our current reality, paying one small fee for access to millions of songs and thousands of albums makes way more sense than buying discs. Africa's strength is actually in its digital growth, which is one the fastest in the world right now. We just need to keep scaling our streaming numbers to match the global giants. I’d like to believe it’s not impossible but it will take some time before we get there.

Agreed but it’s a huge challenge because IFPI weights physical sales (vinyl/CDs) very highly. Audiences in Africa consume music mostly via streaming, which requires billions of plays to equal the revenue/units of a major Western or K-pop physical release. We might have the global hits, but this chart appears to favour markets with high physical purchasing power.
