@ClayTravis Even if you were right, the plain meaning of the 14th amendment requires birthright citizenship. If the change is so logical, it shouldn't be an issue to get a constitutional amendment.

Everyone on the left talks about “relics of colonialism” as an awful thing, well birthright citizenship by soil only exists to this day BECAUSE of colonialism. It’s a legitimate relic of that era that serves no purpose today.

Birthright citizenship BY SOIL only exists in North America — and almost nowhere else in the world — because colonial powers wanted to ensure the children and grandchildren of colonial settlers would remain citizens of the colonial power — England, Spain, Portugal, France et al.
