Ben-Gvir is a dangerous provocateur who represents an extreme minority. He is fundamentally and entirely not Israel, and he does not represent its values or the rule of law. Netanyahu’s irresponsible decision to bring him into the government and place him at the head of a ministry has cost Israel human lives and damaged Israel's relationships around the world. With elections approaching, we will do everything to replace the entire government and rebuild a liberal, democratic Israel.

Micheál Martin stands there, hands clasped in pious sorrow, condemning the “illegal” detention of Irish activists while the Global Sumud Flotilla steams straight into a live war zone to “break the blockade.” Darling, you can’t preach de-escalation from one side of your mouth and wave the next provocation off with the other. Irish citizens didn’t accidentally wander into international waters; they signed up for the photo-op, knowing full well it would end in zip-ties and Ben-Gvir’s victory lap. Yes, the man’s an arse for the kneeling-and-anthem circus. Gratuitous, beneath even him. But let’s not pretend the flotilla was a Red Cross mercy dash. It was engineered theatre, and you, Taoiseach, own the Irish bit of the script. Next time you want the situation to cool, perhaps start by telling your own people to stop pouring petrol on it. Words are cheap. Consistency isn’t.

Appalled at the shocking behaviour of Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir towards illegally detained members of the Sumud Flotilla. The Israeli government’s actions are in breach of international law and I intend to raise this issue at EU level.

@DanMulhall You can’t pick one section of ggd nation and say you are not free to work and live where you please. If the state can’t even provide parking spaces for medics at a brand new hospital no wonder they leave.

I can see an argument for requiring graduates to work in Ireland for a number of years to repay the cost of their education, but it would be extremely unpopular as it would probably have to apply to all graduates.
Daniel Mulhall@DanMulhall

I am not sure how we can deter medical graduates from emigrating. Better salaries and conditions at home would have an effect, but there would still be an urge to live & work in Britain, Australia, Canada and the USA where Irish graduates, unlike those from continental countries, can work through their own language.

@paulmurphy_TD @ciarantierney Israeli politicians laugh at their own depravity. Why wouldn’t they, they seem to be able to do what they like? What protection does an EU passport provide us with? Seems it’s worthless, like most of our politicians.

The woman in this video is Caitriona Graham an Irish citizen. This is how our citizens are being treated by Israel , having been abducted in international waters, trafficked to a third state and now experiencing humiliation, stress positions, aggression and violence.

@fingalpimpernel Far more was sent back to Ireland by that whole generation than was ever given to them. What she says is simply true.

First there was the Dion Commission in 1984. Ireland became one of the 1st countries in the world to direct state funding towards welfare of diaspora, beginning in the UK. As the country was still extremely poor much of these services had to be supplemented alongside voluntary and church support. Then in 2004 this merged into the Emigrant Support Programme, which runs to this day. Since its institution it has spent €265 million on programmes for Irish emigrants all over the world, you can find information about the kind of work its done since 2004, not just for migrants but second generation Irish abroad too. Another example of Catherine Connolly lying through her teeth

My letter in today's @Independent_ie The illiberal instincts of many on the the left and some liberals have created a perfect environment for populism. They'll never admit it though.

@ZzVvbbbbn The Palestinians had their own country. It was stolen from them. Why should they have accepted the theft of their land? Would anyone?

Had the Arab leadership accepted the 1947 UN partition plan, Palestinians would have had their own state for the last 78 years that was twice as big as the West Bank and Gaza put together. But they rejected it, and declared war on Israel on day 1. But they lost

There’s a complete lack of loyalty. I think Keir Starmer should stay. I think there shouldn't be a leadership contest. And I back Keir Starmer to finish the job that he started, deliver the manifesto that he got elected on. Yes, things have been tough. Yes, he's made mistakes. The background in the world with Trump 2.0, the Iran war, all that kind of stuff, hasn't helped, but our economy grew very strongly in the 1st quarter, and that news was out just this week, yesterday, and things aren't that bad. But it's been painted that way. gbnews.com/politics/dale-…

Well said, Lilly, Jews feel safer at the Unite the Kingdom March than near the pro-Pal one. How could that possibly be?

@Keir_Starmer I am Jewish and live in London - I feel safer at the unite the kingdom march than near the pro Palestine march! You ignored the Jewish people in this country when we said over and over again pro Palestine marches are hate marches!

So Andy Burnham – the serial reject Labour passed over TWICE for both Ed Miliband AND Jeremy Corbyn – now thinks he deserves a magic parachute into Parliament and the leadership over the Labour 403 MPs who actually won seats? Sad and deluded.
