If you aren't a Zionist, you're morally bankrupt. Israel is mentioned more than 2200 times in the Torah, Jerusalem more than 600. It is not mentioned once in the Koran (other than as the Jewish homeland). It is the heart of Jewish identity. For 3800 years, Jews have lived in Israel, continuously, an unbroken thread of living soul and flesh. This predates Christianity by two millennia and Islam by three. Since 500 years BCE, Jews have prayed three times daily to return to Israel and rebuild their Temple. Imagine if Rome had remained in the hands of the Visigoths. Or if Mecca had been seized repeatedly by empires, and Muslims forcibly converted and exiled. Rome belongs to Christians. Mecca belongs to Muslims. Zion belongs to Jews. Israel is the land of the Israelites. The Jews come from Judea. This isn't about empires, wars, or demographics. Supporting Jews in their spiritual homeland is simply the right thing to do.

It seems the midterms might not have been going our way anyway. If that's the case (or if enrichment was near -- JCPOA provisions on advanced centrifuges expired in Jan, and the negotiators bragged to Witkoff that they had enough 60% for 12 nukes), Trump rightly seized the opportunity. And I agree they won't stop if they get power. We better pass the SAVE Act and hope it'll have an effect.

In all fairness, NATO is really a defensive treaty, but I'm sick of everyone constantly warning about Iran and then acting shocked when someone actually did something. Mind you, I think this whole misadventure was ill-timed and will cost Trump the midterms. Then it's endless impeachment hearings - first Trump THEN Vance. They won't stop this time when they get power.

I just got off the phone with someone who works in defense policy in Washington. What they told me should end every "Trump is reckless" argument permanently. "Every single president since Clinton received the same intelligence briefing on Iran's nuclear timeline. Every single one was told the window was closing. Every single one chose to kick it down the road because the political cost of acting was higher than the political cost of waiting." Trump got the same briefing. 60kg of 90% enriched uranium. 4 weeks to breakout. Material for 2 bombs. He chose to act knowing it would tank his approval to 35%. He chose to act knowing his own base would split. He chose to act knowing NATO allies would refuse to help. He chose to act knowing gas prices would spike. A senior analyst I know at a major think tank put it this way: "The difference between Trump and every president before him isn't intelligence. They all had the same data. The difference is courage."
