A new record for quantum superpositions!
You might say quantum mechanics is already strange enough with particles acting like waves and being in two places at once and whatnot, but scientists just set a new record for how big this weirdness can get.
In the new experiment that was just published in Nature, the group from Vienna managed to put sodium nanoparticles, each with more than 7,000 atoms, into superpositions using laser gratings. Then they proved that the particles could interfere with themselves, so they must have been in multiple places at once. These particles are about ten times heavier than the previously largest quantum object made to interfere with itself.
I find this an interesting experimental avenue because I believe that we will eventually see deviations from the predictions of quantum mechanics when objects become massive enough.

One of Stephen Hawking’s scientifically most influential works was confirmed last week by a strong gravitational wave signal.
The signal was detected in January this year by the LIGO/Virgo/Karga collaboration that combines 4 gravitational wave interferometers in the USA, Italy, and Japan. The analysis revealed that the event was a merger of two black holes of roughly 30 solar masses each, and also that of the final black hole.
Hawking’s prediction (known as the “black hole area theorem”) was that since the surface area of black holes (which is proportional to the square of the mass) determines their entropy, the total surface area can only increase in a merger. The new observation confirms this beautifully.

David Deutsch says no law of nature prevents us from assembling a conscious being from atoms.
We never experience the world in real time. We live a fraction of a second behind, reconstructing what just happened. All of that is computation.
So if machines compute as we do, they must also have subjective experience.

I’m truly devastated. The world just lost a wonderful man. Tony was a dear friend, who had the biggest heart, a joyful spirit, and a generous soul. I’m sending love and prayers to his family, friends and fans. He’s at peace and his legacy will never be forgotten 🙏🏽 #RipTonyTodd

@Kasapking128258 @Beth_Kindig I don't think the payoff will be what these large companies expect in the next several quarters. I strongly suspect they will give up if no big profitable breakthroughs happen within the next 18 months.

@Beth_Kindig That’s a very interesting take on AI. It is going to change everything.

"Generative AI is not just a tool, it is a skill. And so this is the interesting thing [...] For the very first time, we're going to create skills that augment people.
And so that's why people think that AI is going to expand beyond the trillion dollars of data centers and IT, and into the world of skills.”

AI PCs were a predominant driver of growth in PCs sequentially, rising from approximately 7% share in Q1 to 14% share of shipments in Q2.
On a unit basis, AI PCs shipments jumped 120% QoQ, from 4.0 million in Q1 to 8.8 million in Q2. For the first half of the year, that puts shipments at around 12.8 million units.

@iamtomnash Perhaps getting into basketball pickup games to start? I remember you talking a lot about the sport in your videos. I think sports is a good way to get a workout that's not boring and too regimented.

This is going to be an unusual post but it’s real. Over the past 15 years I’ve been struggling with my weight. I’ve been ballooning up to 230 pounds and dropping it back to 180-190 just to gain it all back up again and fail.
In the past 4 years alone it happened 3 times already and every time it happens I feel like a total loser and a failure. We all have our demons, and these are mine unfortunately.
Well, I’m at 230 again, and starting my trip back to 190 pounds all over again and this time I’m going to stick the landing and just be done with this once and for all.
If you have any tips or advice you would like to share please drop it below. Regardless, thank you for reading this and I appreciate the support, hoping this might eventually inspire others to get healthy 🫡

Question: What can go wrong with Bonds?
Everyone i know, i talk too, taxi drivers, grandmothers, ex gfs are buying bonds. I'm sure you have the same experience.
Government bonds are risk free, everyone getting +/- 5%, it's over subscribed, over crowded trade. What can go wrong?
It's been bugging me. I don't have an answer too.
