Cubs 2025 4th rounder Kaleb Wing threw a scoreless frame in the Spring Breakout game tonight.
Fastball sat ~94 mph with 19”+ iVB, paired with a nasty changeup. Also mixed in a CU, FC, and SL.

Really excited to spend the upcoming season with this staff. Have heard a lot of great things about the newcomers. Never a dull moment with Marty in the clubhouse and learned a lot about baseball (and other things) from Marty and Tony last year.

twins add reliever dan altavilla to the mix
altavilla added a changeup last year and saw some success with it (.172 baa 36% whiff)
if he could add a little more glove side movement out of that slider he’s got a solid arsenal to work with

@RBunikiewicz Accelerating the elbow would really be accelerating the humerus, which happens earlier in the throw than I’m talking about. The throw moves proximally to distally, so the very end is more forearm/hand acceleration.

A lot of things that are mechanically inefficient are what make outlier pitches. The way Brash accelerates his arm at the end makes his breaking stuff disgusting, but would blow up his arm if he was a starter. Being able to “redline” your body is important as a MLB reliever.

I see videos like this and remind myself that bucketing mechanics is one of the worst things to do to an athlete. Get the pelvis open and move with intent into a firm lead leg and good things happen. Year of the compensator.
