As I'm struggling with the best way to craft a sermon, I closed all my tabs and opened the Bible and was drawn to 1 Corinthians. Paul saying he wasn't called to preach with words of eloquent wisdom is especially liberating this morning.

Augustine: Our Christian orator ... will succeed more by piety in prayer than by gifts of oratory.... He ought, before he opens his mouth, to lift up his thirsty soul to God, to drink in what he is about to pour forth, and to be himself filled with what he is about to distribute.

Still trying to process what happened yesterday. It felt like the scariest moment in America since 9/11. Truly appalling and infuriating. And if they were black, there would have been piles of dead bodies. Lord, come quickly.
