@roypearce1968 @crowmogh @BladeoftheS Onshore wind: Higher, with some analyses indicating individual turbines at zero output for roughly 15–20% of the time (a common figure for typical onshore sites due to more variable land-based winds).
English

@bobsgray @crowmogh @BladeoftheS No wind ?
When was this ?
About two days a year without wind on land and zero at sea where the turbines should be.
Better still tidal power is the ultimate renewable and especially in the Severn estuary.

@pskpspspss @BladeoftheS On heavily overcast or “very cloudy” days—think thick, low-level gray cloud cover with no visible sun—production typically falls to 10-30% of peak capacity, though it can dip as low as under 10% in extreme cases or reach up to 50% with certain cloud types
English

@bobsgray @BladeoftheS At least in the US you’re still not allowed to disconnect from the utility so you’d like have the same situation in the UK
Panels will still produce some electricity when it’s cloudy, basically if you can see outside some is probably being generated unless the panels are blocked

@FloodOfColour @bobsgray @BladeoftheS No sir.
You may still get burned but cloud will reduce photons detected by solar panels by up to 80%.
That's because clouds diffuse sunlight. Visible light being the driver for Photovoltaic Cells, less visible light = less electricity produced.
English

@roypearce1968 @crowmogh @BladeoftheS And what happens when there is no wind? You can have millions of wind turbines generating zero power!! I’m all for Green initiatives but none of this is thought through properly. It’s all just renewable sound bites at the moment.
English

@bobsgray @crowmogh @BladeoftheS No…. By wind power that runs all night and often exceeds night time demand … so more wind power and more solar will be perfect.
English

@roypearce1968 @crowmogh @BladeoftheS Tonight just 38.7% from wind power. Without fossil fuels we are screwed.

English

@crowmogh @BladeoftheS There is never a time day or night when we generate sufficient power from only renewables.

English

@crowmogh @BladeoftheS So you get topped up by fossil powered generation?
English

@rm200134283 @trevhewsongy @BladeoftheS How often do these batteries need replaced? Very expensive to buy so similar cost to replace? Has that been factored into people’s costs?
English

@trevhewsongy @bobsgray @BladeoftheS Yet battery is say £5k plus and mayb 20 year life.
What happens when "all" have batteries ?
End of cheap rates ?
Current ukgov pushes costs onto
Standing charge £15 / month with zero kWh
Vat
English

@IanTwitts @BladeoftheS Where do you think the cheap overnight electricity comes from? Fossil powered generation!!
English

@bobsgray @BladeoftheS My home has solar panels and a battery. From Spring to early winter the panels charge the battery. In winter I buy in cheaper overnight electricity to run the house during the day. My annual utility bill is negative, because I get paid for electricity I sell back to the grid.
English

@Cannydc1 @bobsgray @BladeoftheS Nope, clouds magnify the sun. Ever been hill walking in thick cloud where you cant see anything yet you still get sunburn?
English

@Changeling_1 @bennycraven @BladeoftheS So the balance of 28% comes from where? Fossil powered generation?
English

@bennycraven @bobsgray @BladeoftheS I’ve just posted a reply on this from my 8 panel system.
We use, on average, 15kWh per day but that’s a 4 bedroom house with a hot-tub in the rear garden that we keep ticking over on low over the Winter.
We covered 72% of our power requirements last year from the system.
English

@LBC @Lewis_Goodall It’s government policy to have all mobile devices carry out backup to cloud. This nonsense about lost phones is total lies.
English

‘The Prime Minister’s chief of staff has no back up of his messages?’
@Lewis_Goodall wants to know what happened to Morgan McSweeney's phone containing texts with Peter Mandelson.
