@RealJohnShoe @isnit0 People generally don't in their own homes, it things like landlords for rental properties, etc.
English

@RandomNoobYT @isnit0 Why would anyone install windows you can't open? Literally a stuffy nation!
English

I bought an aircon and it’s great.
You should buy an aircon for your home too if you feel uncomfortable in the heat.
This should not be controversial.

Looking for Growth@lfg_uk
Britain will do literally anything but install air conditioning in new homes.
English

@ajrgd @PositivFuturist @isnit0 It all depends on what you are cooling and how you connect it up, many will just open the window and push the exhaust though.
But yes even standalone should be single digits a day
English

@RandomNoobYT @PositivFuturist @isnit0 mm. standalone units *should* only be single-digit pounds a day
English

@RealJohnShoe @Krissa_Kray_ Like everything else it's what you are used to, it's what you learned and know and something different just seems weird.
English

@Krissa_Kray_ It's good for science experimentation and nothing else. I can't believe Asia fell for it.
English

@ajrgd @PositivFuturist @isnit0 Some people just expect split units to be noisy and expensive to run just because standalone ones are
English

@RandomNoobYT @PositivFuturist @isnit0 well of course, if you pipe it and the unit is on your roof or the wall
English

@RealJohnShoe @isnit0 Don't talk shit, it all depends on what type of window you have installed.
English

@ajrgd @PositivFuturist @isnit0 Split units aren't loud, mine is virtually silent you have to listen very carefully to hear it, even the outside unit is quiet although it makes more noise the harder it has to work.
English

@PositivFuturist @isnit0 they're all gonna be loud. they're condensing air. the louder the better
English

@thomson_xyz @isnit0 You will save up front on a standalone but pay for it in the long run, a split unit is far more efficient.
Put it this way I have a standalone and that uses the same amount of energy to cool a single room as my now installed multi-split uses to cool 3 different rooms.
English

@ryan_c414 @54JohnBull That's what I did, that was 4 years ago and still works as good as day 1.
They did require the installer I was planning to use so just have a random one.
Just make sure to pressure test with nitrogen first for leaks and make sure you pull a full vacuum afterwards.
English

@54JohnBull just install it anyway what are they going to do? write a strong-worded letter? the courts are so gummed up in this country, law and order is non-existent any more.
English

Basic split AC units are not outrageously expensive but there are extra costs because of stupid UK legislation. In Africa the man Kwami from down the road will install it for £20 and gas it up. In the UK it has to be installed by a registered gas fitter adding several hundred pounds to the cost.
In the UK you also can't install it if you live in an apartment building due to noise regulations and leasehold stipulations.

English

@beezus_fuffoon @54JohnBull Quite a few systems run on R32 which while flammable will not explode also require a naked flame to burn and will self extinguish.
English

@54JohnBull But there is some advantage in not letting a random Kwame mess with the gas supply... namely that the entire street might get blown up!!
English

@Jordan1977590 @SpiderUncensor @LGUK They can do like most and get standalone units, no fitting or anything required, its just a standalone appliance you plug into any outlet with your only requirement finding where to temporarily shove the exhaust hose.
Most will just poke it out of the window.
English

@SpiderUncensor @RandomNoobYT @LGUK Half of the UK rent homes and aren't allowed or don't want to waste thousands installing on someone else's property. What don't you understand lmao.
English

Too hot today! Big love to @LGUK in this heatwave. Best investment of the last heatwave - cheap as hell to run and ice cold.

English

@yukaaVT @xHeraKita Even just fans, the amount of people that rush out and buy them when it hits the high 20s is unbelievable, anything that's seasonal just buy when it's not needed, you will get whatever it is at a much reduced price.
English

As an American who has lived in London/the UK for the last 6 years I'm convinced UK people just hate being comfortable and hate convenience.
You have BEEN getting heatwaves at least the last 6 years. After the first 3 years of heatwaves you should have gotten a small air con unit for at least just your bedroom.
Buying it in the winter would also have made it much less expensive.
"But it's only for a few weeks!!"
So you won't get an AC window unit to use for a couple days and would rather constantly complain about it???
"But it's expensive!!"
You say UK houses retain heat (Which is always hilarious to me because in the winter, as soon as the heating goes off, the houses are ice cold), but you never talk about how SMALL a UK house is.
Using it even just at night for comfortable sleeping for the small handful of days you say you would need it just won't break the bank like you're making it seem.
You get one small air con unit off Amazon for £200. You can wheel it to whatever room you need it in, or just keep it in your bedroom and only use it then.
But whatever, keep wrapping your wet blankets or whatever you do around your necks.
You're allowed to be upset people don't understand your weather and why it's so detrimental. You can, and should, be upset about global warming.
But not doing anything about it for yourself is so aggravating.
English

@yukaaVT @xHeraKita It might help someone else that is.
English

@RandomNoobYT @xHeraKita I didn’t ask for air con advice thanks though!
English

@natsukibashi If you don't go mental and try to cool down to say 16c then even a portable A/C will only cost a couple of quid a day to run
I have a split system and can do the whole house 24/7 for a few quid a day at a 18c setpoint if I was on a variable tariff
But I don't need to so its less
English

and pay the £40k electric bill it’ll rack up 😭😭😭
Kirsty🍉 🩵ᴸᵒᵛᵉˢ ᵇⁱᵍ ᵒᶜᵉᵃⁿ🩵@JKJeonEuphoria
"just get Aircon" okay here's the deal. I'll share my PayPal with the first dickhead who says that and they can send me £500 yeh?
English

@yukaaVT @xHeraKita You can buy used ones especially during the colder months for very little, most of the year is cool enough to not need one you have plenty of time to look around sites like eBay and probably pick a basic one up for like £50.
The GOV should be pushing for A2A instead of A2W.
English

£200 is a lot of money for a lot of us… it’s coming across really out of touch that you’re saying you can just “pick one up”
I’m so glad you’re living comfortably enough to be able to spend £200 outright for air con but that’s not all of us I’m afraid!
It’s hot, we can complain and are allowed to complain, this post didn’t need to be made!
English

@Pp46647Pp @ARXGAMING_ @hnhypnotoad Yea 20F are pretty much the coldest days and yes it's not that cold compared to some places but as this is about heat then the average UK summer temp is only around 65F so it can get a bit uncomfortable but that's about it, the issue is the 95F+ days which are infrequent.
English

@ARXGAMING_ @RandomNoobYT @hnhypnotoad its cold, but as a low its not that cold. I'm assuming that they're talking about like the coldest days in winter in which 20 degrees is not that cold
English

@TheProjectUnity Unless you're older and still watch TV then most people don't really see weather maps much, they just look at the temps for the week on their phone app.
English

@michael_sorrow @ARXGAMING_ @Pp46647Pp @hnhypnotoad Maybe in the USA, but as this was about Britain our average temperature is around 10c or 50F, even in the warmer months we only average around 55F, the average summer temp is around 65F.
We only see 95F or more around 3 days a year.
Which is why most don't bother with A/C
English

@RandomNoobYT @ARXGAMING_ @Pp46647Pp @hnhypnotoad It’s stays that cold for 3-4 months and stays hot and humid 80 percent humidity and 90 degree weather for 6 -7 months
English

@SpiderUncensor @chase_da_birdie @LGUK On the hottest days like yesterday if I was on the standard variable so the most expensive I would have been looking at about £2
When people cover their whole house in fans they cost almost as much to run as a A/C unit especially if you don't have it cranked all the way down 16c
English

@chase_da_birdie @RandomNoobYT @LGUK Not in the UK, costs about 10p an hour to really cool the room better than anything else.
Approx 12p an hour to heat the room in winter. And its not a small room - much cheaper than the central heating and much more effective than a fan.
English

@michael_sorrow @ARXGAMING_ @Pp46647Pp @hnhypnotoad But it is enough that people will die when it can be like that for over a month
Most people are not going to die because it reached 95F for 3 days in a year especially when they could be a week apart
English
