I have a PhD in Free Radical and Radiation Biology from Iowa. Sad that the degree will no longer be offered and just rolled into "biomedical sciences". It is something that makes me unique and interesting to employers. Sad day.

New preprint alert!
We previously found that the nervous system leads to a specific form of inflammation from T-cells. In this new work, we translate this to autoimmune disease and show promise for this therapeutic approach!

@JacobAllenPhD @EricTopol @Nature @QuintanaLabHMS Agreed. Catecholamine signaling in immune cells is highly dynamic and context dependent. Sometimes anti-inflammatory and sometimes pro. No one size fits all mechanism, even if we wished it was 😃

@EricTopol @Nature @QuintanaLabHMS Great. Yet my one issue is describing Norepineprine as “anti inflammatory” . Not always and is a major oversimplification. We and others @caseredoxlab have data to suggest otherwise.

This work is massively ongoing and we have a ton more data to share (very soon), but we wanted to get this exciting first work out! Stay tuned, as I think we have a lot more to learn about how T-lymphocytes are regulated, and this is just scratching the surface!

Not only is it expressed, but it appears to play a major role in regulating inflammation, mitochondrial function, and reactive oxygen species in these cells!

I bet you do not think about hemoglobin very much, other than that protein that carries oxygen in red blood cells, right? Well, we have identified that this protein is expressed in immune cells, particularly T-lymphocytes...

@RetractionWatch We literally pay publishers thousands of dollars to publish papers. Spelling errors are not on us, it's on them. Maybe they should dip into their profit margins a bit and hire/purchase some quality proofreaders.

We also want to thank @conn_pann_fun for his insight and use of his hemoglobin knock-out mice! His lab pioneered the discovery of hemoglobin as a nitric oxide regulator in the vasculature. Our work extends that amazing finding and shows the versatility of this ancient protein!
