Legality is of great value for social cohesion but it's a poor standard for fairness and morality. To call someone evil for breaking the law is silly. If they're evil it's because of the underlying reason a given law exists in the first place. Morality is in the heart of the individual who knows right from wrong. You'd be in pieces on the shelves if companies could get away with it. They get the fire on their ass and stay within the line or they don't get the dollar. You're not dealing with a human whose morality is ambiguous or unknown to you, you're dealing with an entity for which morality is not even a factor to begin with.

After reading so many Japanese responses I really feel like the West is way better at arguing their points. False equivalence is a stain on argumentation, your points hold no water, you have an antiquated view of copyright that the rest of the world thinks is draconian and will end with many works being lost to time. The entire western world immortalizes art without exception, whether you like it or not. A corporate suit has no right to remove the work of real artists to meet a bottom line profit goal.

Les japonais devraient comprendre que si leur pays fait autant rêver à l’étranger c’est en partie parce que les gaijins ont importés/piratés illégalement leur pop-culture dans les années 80/90. Ils devraient limite être reconnaissant de notre tendance à contourner les règles.
