@MarcusGustavus The lesson still stands: It was representative of what God was doing with Israel. We can also extrapolate this out to include how Christ treats the church. Christ knows we will fail after our conversion and yet He still chooses us every time.

@cms116 Yes, Hosea was a prophet called by God to a specific task. God told him to marry Gomer as an object lesson specifically because of how revolting it is to a man to marry a whore. You're not Hosea.

Boy are you in for a shock when you finally make it to chapter 3 of the Bible
Caleb Smith@cms116

@kenzietuff Laying “manmade horrors” at the feet of women is not just wild but also wrong, because plenty of evil has happened not because woman told a man, but because a man lusted after power, wealth, and carnal desires.

The rush from Christian leaders to completely eliminate any possible consequences for sexual degeneracy really explains why the church has gotten so weak Young men and women, you are not a bad Christian for having expectations for what your spouse will be like
Owen Strachan@ostrachan

If you think that women who have a dark past are "damaged goods" and aren't worthy of marriage to a godly man, just wait 'til I tell you about the past life of the bride Christ has taken for himself.

@posttenebrasluz Yes we celebrate the redeeming grace of God, I’m not sure what your point is? Are you suggesting there are people who are irredeemable?

@cms116 No, no. You defend this premise with a serial killer. Why would you attribute to a new creature in Christ, even if he was a serial killer in the past, old sins? You must advocate for him to walk free as son as he converts. Own your argument.
Caleb Smith@cms116

@posttenebrasluz Why would I, or anyone else, need to worry about shame? 2 Corinthian 5:17 says “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” So attributing old sins to a new creation is unbiblical.

“Testimony” culture is a sick, depraved tradition in mod churches that glorifies a past life of wicked sin & defiles the consciences of young people. There’s nothing holy or good in sharing details of past depravity & degeneracy. No one is edified, just scandalized or titillated.

@posttenebrasluz I’m not saying there’s isn’t any consequence. What I am saying is that we rejoice in the redemptive nature of Christ and accept them as a brother and sister. If they ere, you correct them, if they continue in error you cast them out and into the hands of the devil.

@cms116 Your basic premise is so flawed it’s a farce on the face. If I take out whore & replace it with serial killer you would never hold that a serial killer once he’s converted is a new person & his past should be forgotten & he should be set free. Your argument is stupid nonsense.

@posttenebrasluz What’s your argument based of scripture because I have yet to see one reference to anything Bible related. You’ve done nothing but spout nonsense and make personal attacks. Btw, vs 16 talks about not recognizing no one according to the flesh which is what you are doing.

@cms116 I did make an argument from Scripture, just not proof texting which you seem to think is some sort of infallible method left by God. Sorry, it’s not. No one cares what you think a verse says or your silly proof texting. It’s stupid nonsense.

Just as a reminder, if someone's sexual past is too much for you, you're in no way obligated to marry them. It wasn't too much for Trevor. No reason to let this fact enrage you. God bless them both. What a testimony.
Trevor Sheatz@TrevorSheatz

My wife was formerly promiscuous. I was a virgin. She was then radically born-again. Committed to church, evangelized constantly, Puritan books in her bedroom, prayer journals, grief over past sexual sin, etc. We got to know each other well for over a year, dated for four months, engaged for two and a half, and didn't sin sexually with one another. Our first kiss with each other was at the altar on our wedding day (reaction pic attached!). We've been married for over five years now, and she's been the most wonderful and godly wife, mother to our three children, and homemaker you could imagine. She's more pure than most virgins, as biblical purity has less to with past sins (though they certainly matter) and more to do with one's current posture of the heart and daily decisions to honor the Lord (Matt. 5:8). We're far too quick to forget the story of the woman labeled as a known "sinner" (likely a prostitute) in Luke 7:36-50 who was washing Jesus' feet with her tears while kissing them too. The Pharisees were shocked that Jesus let a public sinner do this. Jesus responded with a parable about debts being forgiven and ended with this powerful conclusion: "Her many sins have been forgiven; that’s why she loved much. But the one who is forgiven little, loves little" (Luke 7:47). Everyone seems to highlight the benefits of virginity, and it certainly is a blessing. But we forget to highlight the benefits of being forgiven much as well. My wife knows the depths of Jesus' forgiveness more than most people, enabling her to more easily live out a life of passionate love for her Savior. A woman or man's past sexual sin matters. But what matters far more when it comes to deciding who to marry is if the person is truly born again, if their repentance is real, if they truly have a heart for Christ, if they truly follow Jesus and obey his commands. "God has chosen what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen what is weak in the world to shame the strong. God has chosen what is insignificant and despised in the world — what is viewed as nothing — to bring to nothing what is viewed as something, so that no one may boast in his presence. It is from him that you are in Christ Jesus, who became wisdom from God for us — our righteousness, sanctification, and redemption, — in order that, as it is written: 'Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.'" (1 Cor. 1:27-31) "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!" (2 Cor. 5:17)

@kenzietuff And? I never talked about pastors and priests. My point is the you should moreso lay the horrors at the feet of men, because they are the ones called to lead. So if the horrors abound, it’s not strictly women’s fault, but the abdication of men.

One big reason why some people dishonor gospel testimonies is because those people have no gospel testimony. No new birth. No miracle of conversion. No awareness of their own depravity. No humility before God. They may claim Christ's name, but they are DEAD IN THEIR SINS.

“That’s a strawman!” You seriously don’t think there are young men in this discussion who fit this profile? Over half of professing Christians admit to watching porn—15% say it’s weekly and 7% daily. And that’s just those who admit it.
WWUTT?@WWUTTcom

“Stop saying men should marry wh*res! They’ll always be high body-count wh*res!” Yells the perpetually online young man who scrolled through 58 sexed up women last night before he settled on one to m*sterbate to. You must be redeemed too, young man. Repent.

This is my final post on this topic for the foreseeable future because the conversation has become unbearable. This is the worst example of talking past each other and not to each other I’ve seen in awhile. I’ve had more productive conversations with Leftists. These are my thoughts, take them as you may because no, I am not answering any of your questions. - God can redeem anyone. - Redemption does not always remove earthly consequences. - Redemption and forgiveness are not license to sin. - Marriage is sacred and should be treated as such. - Men may marry Christian women who had a promiscuous past if they feel so called to, but they are under no obligation to do so. - Posting about your wife’s past sins on X dot com does not appear to me to be a wise thing to do nor. - Don’t call another man’s wife a whore. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
