Human sacrifice is fucked up but have you read about the things the inquisition did, or any of the insane medieval-renaissance-reformation public execution shit I love western civ and the aztecs do seem uniquely fucked up to me still, but man no one makes an honest comparison

Chicen Itza, which may be Mayan but I'm sure was at least equalled by the Aztecs, is built to echo back *specific noises* at you when you clap or shout at it from particular locations

The "superior architecture" of the Aztecs were giant piles of dirt on which they'd tear innocent people's hearts out and roll their bodies down the stairs They barely advanced beyond the Stone Age. Mesoamerican civilization is cool, but let's not play pretend here

@anuatluru understanding that comes from sharing an occupation can be very shallow & also doesn't make up for one's insecurities or wounded pride. if you think about it, spontaneous and instinctual hatred is the typical reaction between vv similar acquaintances who have large/sensitive egos

one is fact and one is fiction, so without casting any judgment — there is a problem (or a problem as been allowed to develop) when a partnership with so much would-be understanding is destructive to self-actualization rather than additive

the Oscar-nominated film Anatomy of a Fall and The Cut article about divorce share a common theme: two people in a relationship with shared duties having separate and seemingly competing ambitions as artists, in this case as writers dramatic narratives but a fascinating dynamic

Visa is doing marketing consults (see pinned!)
at any given moment people are typically dealing with problems that they didn't know how to avoid or solve because if they knew how to avoid or solve it, it wouldn't be a problem they were dealing with

High extroversion and neuroticism people tend to be both driven and stressed; usually active, social, motivated, but also high anxiety; perhaps controlling. Low on both ppl tend to be chillax; low standards for living, happy alone, but also low stress, peaceful.

I read a book that argued that extroversion and neuroticism were actually pairs. Extroversion should be better understood as 'sensitivity to positive stimuli', and neuroticism as 'sensitivity to negative stimuli'. You can be high in both, low in both, or ofc high in one. 1/

@etirabys iirc the anglophone kpop fandom had a lot of overlap with 1d, supernatural, etc back in the day (giving away my age here) and hence supported terrible fictitious outcomes between strapping young lads of more than one ethnic background

I don't think this is particularly important context to add, but for reference these Anglophone fangirls frequently want terrible things to happen in fiction to these slender big eyed kpop boys

I'm not into kpop, but in fandom I unavoidably brush up against the huge numbers of Anglophone fangirls who are intensely attracted to the slender big eyed kpop boys are you East Asian? do you expect this is overall positive for East Asian men in the Anglosphere?

@owenbroadcast mainstream christian music (eg Hillsong) is designed to be used for worship, like how children's music is more didactic than artistic. maybe a better example is that the house jazz band at a cafe is going to play "jazz cafegoers expect" rather than jazz that pushes boundaries.

as someone into: religion, america, and aesthetics (who also owns a car) i have naturally, on more than one occasion - asked: why is the christian music on the radio so bad? specifically, why is it “like that”? when you hear it, you know the vibe. a few thoughts on this topic:
