Someone sent obviously generated AI slop poem to the group chat and everyone over 50 is going gaga over it… im reminded of the phrase from SF critic Darko Suvin re the APPEARANCE of cognition… it doesnt actually have to say anything, just appear to… sobering times as a writer

Early in dating, people roughly agree on who's attractive. The longer two people know each other, the more attraction becomes idiosyncratic and personal. Eastwick and colleagues' research on "relational mate value" found that consensus about desirability decreases the more people interact, while unique relationship-specific evaluations grow. The ELO score/market price of a partner stops mattering. What replaces it is a private valuation that no outside observer can rate. This is what the slow system actually does, and no swipe app measures it.
i had the pleasure of photographing @noampomsky a few weeks ago when I visited SF. she's a writer in the way I aspire to be one: having your pieces be ambassadors of empathy and connection my readers. i enjoyed chatting with her as much as taking photos for her, because we were able to talk from the depth of her writing. thank you @christineist for connecting us!
