Colonialism is not an excuse but I think who colonize you makes a big difference. This determines how easy it is to direct entrepreneurs away from their comfort zone to export. It’s the political economy of plantations that made crony capitalism possible.

From 1946 to 1975, Vietnam was in 29 years of continuous wars; 8 years fighting France, 20 years of civil war, and 8 years fighting the US. Today, unlike Nigerians who still blame colonialism, Vietnam has 100% electricity and far higher HDI and GDP than Nigeria.

Before I was someone that would say that I would only be comfortable with Abuja for the QOL if I ever want to stay in Nigeria long term but the light rail is the only reason why Lagos is even an option.
Nillionaire.ts 🇳🇬@igboonaija3

I live in Lagos because it’s better than every other state in almost every way. The only notable thing I like is the train system....and I don’t even use it often because I rarely go out for anything special. Not really mehn

@Joe_brendan_ And you think any of this actually matters in the real world? Like the average consumer will have eyes for these? Lol.

@KachiOgbonna1 @egh_max @nazonuzo Even if you don’t go for an outright ban, you can do like India did last month and apply an export tax on jet fuel

Then we moved up to a state in the northeast with a much more competitive environment from the south and the difference in rigor was night and day. The old state was ranked 29th but I went to the state that is one of the top 5 best public education system.

The other school in contrast didn’t offer up to a third of the AP classes available and had a way lower graduation rate of 87% compared to 94%

One of the best parts of immigration is that you can pick the right zip code to guarantee outcomes. I remember googling the middle school I was going to attend, we payed a higher rent just to stay in a good school district. That zip code lottery opened a lot of doors for me.

"the wave of black migration is narrowing the black-white earnings gap, which has not changed for decades. Black migrants tend to be better educated than both natives and other immigrants. They also tend to settle in richer, whiter neighborhoods, with good schools."

@nazonuzo @egh_max I’m surprised that an export ban is not discussed at all. The FT reported a couple of weeks ago that Dangote refinery had sold A1 to the U.K., Which tells me European airlines are bidding with Nigerian airlines for the same fuel
