There isn't a team in the world right now that plays the false 9 system better than PSG, yet against Arsenal’s well-organized low block they still struggled a lot, and the lack of a clear number 9 occupying the box and pinning defenders was very noticeable. For Barça, that’s an important lesson. I’m not saying we shouldn’t sign Alvarez, PSG winning back-to-back UCLs without a traditional striker shows you can absolutely succeed without a pure 9 as your main reference point. But in a league like La Liga, where you face deep blocks almost every week, you probably still need another profile alongside him: a classic box presence to give you that aerial threat and penalty-area occupation when games get stuck. It doesn’t have to be a big-name signing either. Even a low-cost profile like Muriqi-type striker could do that job.
