Di era 90-an yg penuh kroniisme dan KKN, hukum itu tumpul. Abah adalah representasi kelas menengah yg dihancurkan oleh sistem yg korup. Kemiskinan keluarga ini bukan "takdir romantis", melainkan korban struktural. Lalu, lihat permainan Oposisi Biner pada namanya: Cendana vs Cemara. Cendana itu eksklusif, mahal, dan wangi—metafora absolut buat oligarki dan sentralisasi kekayaan elit penguasa saat itu. Sementara Cemara (Pine tree) itu daunnya tajam, bisa tumbuh di tanah tandus pinggiran, dan tahan dihantam badai. Cemara adalah simbol resiliensi kelas pekerja (working class). Yg bikin sinetron ini aslinya sangat radikal adalah sikap Abah. Setelah bangkrut, dia bisa aja menjilat penguasa atau main kotor (survival of the fittest ala Orba) buat kaya lagi. Tapi dia memilih turun kelas jadi tukang becak. bukan kepasrahan yg melankolis, ini adalah penolakan secara sadar. Abah menolak berpartisipasi dalam sistem kapitalisme rakus yg nir-moral. Dia lebih milih miskin secara finansial daripada harus mengorbankan integritasnya. Bahkan lirik legendaris "Harta yang paling berharga adalah keluarga" itu bukan sekadar lirik sedih buat ngehibur orang miskin. Itu adalah tamparan ideologis buat Keluarga Cendana yg saat itu sibuk memonopoli proyek negara dan menumpuk kapital. Arswendo mendekonstruksi metrik kesuksesan Orde Baru (Bapak Pembangunan): bahwa martabat dan kewarasan manusia itu gak bisa dibeli oleh negara. Jadi, Keluarga Cemara itu bukan ngajarin kita buat nrimo dan pasrah jadi miskin. karya ini adalah manifesto kultural tentang bagaimana menjaga integritas dan kewarasan di tengah negara yg sedang dirampok oleh elitnya sendiri.

Presiden negeri sekuler ngamuk karena Israel menutup Gereja Makam Suci di Yerusalem pada perayaan Minggu Palma, sedangkan presiden negeri muslim terbesar di dunia belum ada ngomong apa-apa soal penutupan Masjid al-Aqsa yang sudah memasuki 4 minggu lebih. Benar-benar memalukan!
