The Pope - the first American Pope, no less - isn't just the leader of the Catholic Church as an institution. His interpretation of Jesus's teachings represents the moral and spiritual foundation of the religion. The President just attacked him as weak and accused him of not caring about human lives - and the actual White House promoted it.

I am not trying to make my Catholic friends, who I love, angry with this statement. But this entire episode is starting to explain to me why so many Americans were concerned about a Catholic president for so long. I have no interest in Rome trying to dictate American policy. And if it continues to loudly make its opinions heard on our foreign policy, I believe they’re going to find a lot of American Protestants feeling a lot less ecumenical than we have been in the more recent past.

When the Big East had football and was considered part of the "P5" Jose Fernandez was the coach at USF. Jose was the first Latino power conference coach. This is a very important distinction because central florida sucks.
