After almost a year, a true independent investigation has finally been launched into the allegations of sexual misconduct perpetrated by Mike Bickle and other IHOPKC leaders. This investigation will also be looking into reports that sexual abuse was covered up by IHOPKC leadership. Investigator Jim Holler and his team at Firefly Investigations are experienced, thorough, unbiased, and trauma-informed. I'm so happy that abuse survivors will finally have the opportunity to step forward to share their profoundly painful experiences in a safe space with investigators who know what they're doing. I strongly encourage anyone with information about sexual abuse or cover-up at IHOPKC to participate in this independent investigation. You can start by taking this short confidential survey. fireflyisai.com/ihopkc

ATTN: To the angry Christians in the Twitter-verse. Yes, we’re called to fight, expose & bring God’s healing when there is injustice. I believe in that! I have a track record proving that exact thing for 20+ years in ministry. But many of you are just sad and angry people attacking anyone and everyone while believing it’s “virtuous” and “righteous.” And it is not. Stop the friendly fire. Seek the Lord. Trust him to make every crooked path straight. Get off Twitter. Read the word. When your rage is so strong that you cannot celebrate the lost getting saved, sick getting healed and the trauma-filled being delivered, you just may be partnering with the wrong spirit. It’s called anger and it’s blinded you. “for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.” James 1:20

@seanfeucht You began by mocking victims of trauma. This naturally provoked a negative reaction from your brothers and sisters. So you called them names and played victim.

California is a beautiful place to live. I’m grateful to be here. I know there are a lot of California haters, but might just not be the place for you. But for those who can, whether that be through calling or desire, it has a beauty all its own. It’s the land of inheritance. 💛

@mlsinkc @joshjrainwater While I think this is true in some (many?) cases, I also know IHOPers who r overqualified for the positions they held at IHOP, having laid down solid careers to serve at the house of prayer. And that difference, for sure, makes a difference in securing employment beyond IHOP.

@joshjrainwater @jjsraindrop Totally with you. Ihoppers are definitely not 100% vocational ministry people. They should all be members of a church, not employees. They're primarily organizational. And sadly, they're very under equipped and undertrained vs a traditional organization in most cases.

@jjsraindrop I will also say it is clear that a species of elitism still exists in those who have left IHOPKC. It doesn't go away simply because you disagree with the leaders now. And this needs to die and be replaced by a godly humility and confidence in the Word of God. 3/

@jjsraindrop Maybe they should take some time to have regular jobs, heal, and fully get UN-indoctrinated before heading all In ministry.

1. hey #ihopkc - imagine as a husband, having your wife spend hours alone with Mike Bickle daily. for YEARS. imagine her deleting email correspondence between them. imagine being gaslit, diminished, and told you were being “controlling” when expressing discomfort

Hey there former #ihopkc folks. If you are wanting to get rid of your Bickle teachings, would you consider sending them to me instead? Mike talks about his history throughout his stuff, and so these things are helpful for timelining and documentation.

TL;DR: Reflections of a recovering hypercharismatic 1/3 ⬇️ See parts 2 & 3 for resources & points to consider if you are just beginning to “deconstruct” from the NAR, the Neo-charismatic movement, & other high control Christian groups Dear (public) diary, 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️I’m taking a stroll down charismania lane…I attended some crazy conferences back in the day. It’s all so cringey looking back. A lot of the teaching from the stage was in the vein of, “God wants to break open the box you’ve put Him in,” or, “You can either choose to resist the Holy Spirit or allow Him to take over.” Lots of preaching about submission and surrender. In combining these messages + a time of worship and response (which often consisted of the laying of hands and praying to release the anointing/power of God), the outcome is often just like whatever primal urge you are feeling at that moment, just GO FOR IT MAN! It’s God moving!!!! Even the most outlandish behavior was justified by referencing Acts 2, when those who were baptized in the Holy Spirit were mocked by onlookers who called them drunk. Checking in with your own discomfort or ‘critical thinking brain’ became irrelevant, as it was more important not to criticize or reject a move of the Holy Spirit, lest you be like those mockers. Don’t you want to surrender and encounter God too? Having a ‘radical encounter’ often equated to a sign of “going deeper” with God and/or receiving a greater level of anointing from God. (For non-charismatics: anointing is essentially an empowerment to be effective for God’s purposes/an increased level of operation in the spiritual gifts). It’s all still pretty confusing because I believe people can (and do) experience God in some out-of-the-box ways, but in hyper-charismatic circles, it often becomes an integral part of the culture. I feel like one of the most stereotypical phrases charismatics use is often something like, ‘It’s not about the anointing or the signs and wonders, it’s about _____(insert some platitudinous Christianese, then proceed to talk about your dreams and visions and miracles you’d witnessed that week). Anointing and operating in the gifts often equated to social capital including popularity, perceived “closeness” to God, and even promotions within organizational leadership. Worst of all, operating in a ‘high level of anointing’ was often viewed as a public stamp of God’s approval on someone’s life. In my deconstruction (deprogramming), I quickly found layered realizations in these two truths: 👉🏼He gives gifts and callings without repentance. (Rom 11:29) 👉🏼 To *many* who prophesy, cast out demons, and ‘do mighty works in His name,’ He will call them ‘evildoers’ or ‘workers of lawlessness.’ (Matt 7:21-23) For me, it was essential to begin untangling God from those who did harm in His name. 1/3
