For those of you not familiar. The A-10 Warthog is the ugliest, most absurdly beautiful killing machine to ever take flight. A flying chunk of titanium molded around a gatlin gun style cannon; the equally absurd 30mm GAU-8. It commands the adoration of troops on the ground as the sound of its unmistakable mating call the “brrrrrrp” overhead means several enemy fighters have been neutralized. It flies low and slow delivering death more intimately than any other fighter jet could fathom. Cloaked in armor, it’s rumored to be able to take damage to 70% of its airframe and still land with ease. It doesn’t need a long or even paved runway. The uppity nerds running the Air Force have decided to “phase them out” this year… yet here they are continuing to “get some”. I personally think that @USMC should take the them over… they fit perfectly in our “take old shit and make it great” culture.

Had some friends stop by Chicuinaco for a hike to our waterfall followed by a late lunch. Nice way to spend the day

Estas organizaciones de “defensa de los derechos humanos”, a las que muchos medios nacionales e internacionales (The Guardian, France 24, El País, los medios de Open Society, entre otros) les están dando amplia cobertura, y que están siendo retomados por miles de periodistas, activistas y políticos locales y extranjeros, están exigiendo que el Estado de El Salvador libere al 100% de los pandilleros capturados desde el inicio del Régimen de Excepción. Ya ni siquiera lo disimulan. Literalmente afirman que “más de 89,000 personas fueron capturadas arbitrariamente”, que sus derechos humanos están siendo violados y que se han cometido crímenes de lesa humanidad. Bajo esa lógica, la liberación del 100% de los detenidos pasaría a ser una obligación de todo Estado. Incluso, en su exposición, uno de los “expertos” deja claro que su denuncia no se refiere únicamente a supuestos opositores políticos o a personas inocentes, sino que también incluye a “miembros de pandillas o personas percibidas como tales”, sosteniendo que, en todos los casos (los 89,000), se trata de capturas arbitrarias, constitutivas de crímenes de lesa humanidad y violaciones a los derechos humanos. Me alegra que se hayan quitado la máscara, porque antes siempre intentaban matizar sus denuncias. Ahora lo han dicho con claridad: Quieren la liberación del 100% de los pandilleros y que El Salvador vuelva al estado en que se encontraba antes del Régimen de Excepción; es decir, al país más peligroso del mundo. Observen quiénes retoman este supuesto estudio y quiénes lo validan como verdadero. Ellos quieren que los criminales sigan asesinando inocentes; para eso trabajan, para eso les pagan. Su labor es engañar a la población para debilitar el apoyo a medidas que pueden traer seguridad a sus familias. Su verdadero objetivo es perpetuar el sufrimiento de la gente honrada. Las organizaciones de derechos humanos se han convertido en los bufetes legales de los delincuentes. Si realmente velaran por los derechos humanos, su prioridad serían las víctimas, no los victimarios.

Our fruit and coconut trees as well as the garden at Chicuinaco are very happy with this rain during the dry season.

Those of you who hate Nayib Bukele do not understand. Last year, I visited La Campanera, one of the most dangerous neighborhoods on earth for years, the worst crimes imaginable. But I saw people with HOPE for the first time. It’s real. Screw the haters.

Ten years ago today I got my shadow Alice. Hoping I get ten more with her. She has been a great companion on my journey from Arizona to El Salvador
