@francisdeng @curtlanglotz Important data and forecast. Will it counter the vibe shift among medical students? We sensed some softening of interest

“AI applications likely will cause a significant decrease in radiologist hours worked. Given the relatively static radiology workforce and the continued growth in imaging volumes, radiologist job loss is unlikely for the foreseeable future.” @curtlanglotz: medrxiv.org/content/10.648…

37-year-old man with positional headaches and #SIH caused by a ventral #CSFLeak. DSM lateral view unable to sort exact level spanning three segments- AP view pinpointed exact level at T1–2, enabling @WouterSchievink to repair dural tear @CedarsSinai

I wanted to share with the radiology community here that my father, Peter W. Callen, MD, passed away this weekend. He was a radiologist, teacher, and scholar whose work helped define modern obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound. Through decades at UCSF, hundreds of publications, and his textbook Ultrasonography in Obstetrics and Gynecology, he influenced how generations of clinicians learned to image, think, and teach. UCSF and the broader radiology community meant a great deal to him. I’m deeply grateful to have been his son and to carry forward the values he modeled: intellectual rigor, clarity, and generosity, both in teaching and in life.

@AndrewCallenMD @francisdeng @LWestafer Very important topic that goes to the heart of our work - thanks for uncovering yet another major miscommunication between writer and reader of reports

Really interesting points here. I’ve always felt that putting percentages on uncertainty makes it feel more concrete, but the numbers end up inheriting the same ambiguity as the words. In a study we did looking at hedging terms with NLP, what stood out wasn’t how often those phrases were used, but how differently people interpreted the exact same language. Makes me think the real challenge isn’t the wording or the number—it’s the translation between what we mean and what’s heard. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC75…

New in JNIS: a venographic classification of the epidural plexus (EP) to guide CVF embo through EP navigation. Success: >90% (Types I–II) → 50% (Type III). Type III = longer fluoroscopy + more EP perforations → prefer segmental vein access. Clinical outcomes highly favorable.

Here is a concrete example where overcalling IIH can negatively affect patient care. Late teens patient with complex medical history presenting with headaches. Empty sella and prominent optic nerve fluid? How would you call it?

1/Do you feel there’s a back-log of findings in a spine MRI report? Everyone talks about discs & facets, but not everyone talks about the endplates Do you? Do you need to talk about degenerative changes (Modic changes) of the endplates? Here’s thread w/all you need to know!
