@antoni You met my mom Sharon yesterday in Cbus. She’s a firecracker. She got you to give my wife Linda a shoutout in Korea, and couldn’t even bother to add me in! Embarrassing. Come visit us in Korea; Your Mapo Tofu version is a staple at ours, with some extra 고추장 kick!

So much to this. And they know we care when they know us. There is no substitute for trust and relationship building, and oftentimes that is a direct result of vulnerability. Thanks @trev_mackenzie. Just read one of your books provided by a colleague very recently.

Recently in class I noticed a student was more engaged than normal. I asked him what resonated w/ him so much. I was curious what I had done. He said something that I haven’t been able to stop thinking about. “When my teachers care I care.” And that my friends, is everything.

I really cannot say enough about reflection, demonstration, and celebration. There is no perfect way to do this, but sharing and celebrating OKRs with your team or in the classroom is a great way to remember how much amazing stuff WE are all doing. Keep up the great work.

@Cheesecake when it’s your wife’s birthday, her name is Linda, and there’s no Factory in Korea… you get contacts to fly in fudge cake from Hong Kong. Held together pretty well! Big thanks @DLovelin

AI bringing Tupac to the classroom. Thanks @cho_liz and @mcelroy23 for showing me historical figures. What a cool tool to vary the way students might get to know a poet/artist/author. There’s beauty even in the hardships, everyone. Have a great one.

So much #KISpride to take 14 amazing humans to connect with other young changemakers in the first of what I hope can become regular semiannual conferences across the peninsula focused on service and leadership. @inspirecitizen2 let’s go!

@cbkaye Thanks for some new ideas. I have ss using need journals as a way to record their noticing of the needs in the world around them. They use those in free inquiry to start the research phase of service learning. I like adding their emotional response to the need they noticed.

If we took away “grades”, would your learners take on the challenges you’re giving to them?

@Dean_of_math 2/2 skills way more valuable than any grade, and I’d argue that writing about that in the essay or speaking to it in an interview is what gets you into your university of choice. The only sad part is that the grade is necessary to get the interview.

@Dean_of_math 1/2: My high school elective rooted in the service learning cycle is pass/fail. When asked, ss said they take more risks because it’s pass/fail (we only co-create our rubrics with a proficient and exemplary column). Overcoming challenge, reflecting, refining, and action are life

@maggiesmithpoet Big shout from Seoul, South Korea, from a fellow Buckeye (St. Charles grad) who grew up just outside of Bexley. Teaching grade 9 English and using First Fall with my students. Schiller Park brings back memories :) Wondering if we can connect!
