Recently in class I noticed a student was more engaged than normal. I asked him what resonated w/ him so much. I was curious what I had done. He said something that I haven’t been able to stop thinking about. “When my teachers care I care.” And that my friends, is everything.

I really cannot say enough about reflection, demonstration, and celebration. There is no perfect way to do this, but sharing and celebrating OKRs with your team or in the classroom is a great way to remember how much amazing stuff WE are all doing. Keep up the great work.

@cbkaye Thanks for some new ideas. I have ss using need journals as a way to record their noticing of the needs in the world around them. They use those in free inquiry to start the research phase of service learning. I like adding their emotional response to the need they noticed.

@Dean_of_math 2/2 skills way more valuable than any grade, and I’d argue that writing about that in the essay or speaking to it in an interview is what gets you into your university of choice. The only sad part is that the grade is necessary to get the interview.

@Dean_of_math 1/2: My high school elective rooted in the service learning cycle is pass/fail. When asked, ss said they take more risks because it’s pass/fail (we only co-create our rubrics with a proficient and exemplary column). Overcoming challenge, reflecting, refining, and action are life
