We can’t keep complaining about building out of Africa. These days I’m more focused on my loci of control, while I actively work towards expanding them. We have come a long way using what we have at our disposal and soon the world will be unable to ignore our input.

Things I've been asked as a Nigerian founder applying to global platforms: "verify your identity with a US phone number?" "Please provide your EIN." "This service is not available in your region. We build global products from countries the global platforms don't recognize..

This is why we’re building for local settlements. One fundamental truth we often miss about emerging markets is that you can’t pay for tomorrow’s inventory with today’s volatility. If a merchant in Lagos processes a ₦5,000,000 transaction today, they’re not thinking about the price of BTC. They’re thinking about how much it will cost to restock their warehouse tomorrow. If you hold their funds in USD or any other fluctuating asset and the rate moves even slightly overnight, you haven’t given them a payment solution you’ve given them a risk they didn’t ask for. The real innovation today isn’t crypto versus fiat. It’s instant utility. That’s what we’ve realized at @digitpayfinance while crypto solves the movement of money, the custody of money for businesses must remain grounded in the currency they operate in every day. Stablecoins like @tether USDT and @USDC will power global movement as private rails, but the final mile should settle into local, stable value, whether that’s country backed stablecoins like @cngn_co, ARSE, or even CBDCs. We don’t need merchants to understand crypto. We just need to ensure that when they check their settlement account, the numbers match their ledger.

What Are Crypto Wallets? In Post 1, we talked about what cryptocurrency is. Today we go one level deeper. Before you can send, receive, or even hold crypto, you need to understand one thing: the wallet. Most beginners assume a crypto wallet works like a bank account or a physical wallet. It does not. And that misunderstanding has cost people real money. Let me explain it properly. What a crypto wallet actually is A crypto wallet is a tool that lets you store, send, and receive cryptocurrency. But your crypto does not physically sit inside the wallet. It lives on the blockchain at all times. What your wallet actually stores are your keys, which are what prove you own your crypto and allow you to move it. Lose your keys, lose your crypto. It is that simple. Public keys and private keys Every wallet has two keys. This is the most important concept to understand in all of crypto. Public key This is your wallet address. Think of it like your bank account number. You share it freely with anyone who wants to send you crypto. It is safe to give out. Private key This is your password, your proof of ownership, and your access to your funds all in one. You never share this with anyone, ever. Not with a customer support agent, not with a friend, not on any website. Whoever has your private key controls your crypto, full stop. A helpful way to think about it: Your public key is like your email address. Your private key is like your password. You give people your email to receive messages. But you never hand over your password. What is a seed phrase? When you create a wallet, you are given a seed phrase. This is usually 12 or 24 random words in a specific order. Your seed phrase is a human-readable backup of your private key. If you ever lose your device or forget your password, this phrase is the only way to recover your wallet and everything inside it. Write it down on paper. Store it somewhere safe and offline. Never type it into any website or app. Never take a screenshot of it. This is not optional advice. It is the difference between keeping your crypto and losing it forever. Types of crypto wallets Not all wallets are the same. They fall into two main categories based on whether they are connected to the internet. Hot wallets Hot wallets are connected to the internet. They are usually apps on your phone or extensions in your browser. Examples: MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Coinbase Wallet. They are convenient and easy to use for everyday transactions. The tradeoff is that being online makes them more exposed to hacks, phishing attacks, and malware. For small amounts you use regularly, hot wallets are fine. Cold wallets Cold wallets are hardware devices that store your keys completely offline. They look like USB drives. Examples: Ledger, Trezor. Because they are never connected to the internet unless you choose to plug them in, they are extremely difficult to hack remotely. For large amounts of crypto you plan to hold long term, a cold wallet is the recommended choice. A simple way to think about it: a hot wallet is like the cash in your pocket. A cold wallet is like a safe at home. Custodial vs non-custodial wallets There is one more distinction that matters enormously. Custodial wallets These are wallets where a third party (usually an exchange like Binance or Coinbase) holds your private keys on your behalf. You log in with a username and password like any normal website. The exchange manages the keys underneath. This is convenient, especially for beginners. But it means you are trusting that company with your funds. If the exchange is hacked, goes bankrupt, or freezes withdrawals, your access to your crypto depends entirely on them. Non-custodial wallets These are wallets where you and only you hold your private keys. No company, no middleman, no third party. MetaMask and Ledger are non-custodial. #Fundableofframp #Crypto101 #CryptoWallet #Bitcoin #Blockchain #Web3 #CryptoForBeginners
