Surviving as a team leader in emergency medicine. Here are 10 learning objectives & strategies I recommend: 1. Develop a resuscitation mindset, taking responsibility for the critically ill patients under your care - ownership is key

2. Appreciate the importance of culture, systems, and your personal preparation and wellbeing in the ‘layer cake’ of resuscitation - the perfect resus is the 'cherry on top'; but it's more likely to happen if you work on the layers

3. Know the boundaries of your circle of influence and focus your efforts within it. This includes being KIND. see resus.me/the-area-under…

4/ Revert to your PRE-STATED core mission and values when overwhelmed with competing priorities eg, treat the sickest, support your team, do your best. You can't do everything.

5/ Understand the limits of your situational awareness and seek to preserve it when in charge

6/ Invest in the building and training and output of TEAMS

8/ WHERE POSSIBLE do not allow the failure of emergency departments to lead to failure of core emergency medicine - although this one is the hardest

9/ Apply tactical communication strategies in resuscitation

10/ Fight for the time for a quick hot debrief after the toughest stuff, and try to change something
