NACHO RESTORATION OF DICK CLARK SPACE ODDITY “And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear...” Today sees the anniversary of the release of the Alabama Song/Space Oddity 45 on 15th February 1980. Space Oddity had been recorded in a 3-song session in London with Tony Visconti, specifically for the Will Kenny Everett Make It To 1980? Show, which was broadcast on 31st December 1979 in the UK. A few days later, on 4th January 1980, Bowie’s appearance on the Sensational Shocking Wonderful Wacky 70's was broadcast on NBC in the US. Produced and presented by Dick Clark, the show featured our man miming to the original 1969 US single edit of Space Oddity. Wearing a Willy Brown designed blue/green jump suit, with a hand-drawn graphic pattern inspired by Le Corbusier, Bowie accessorized with 3 flying saucer shaped pin buttons. The overall effect was future nostalgia. Bowie gave a straight-faced delivery straight to camera to stunning effect, with slicked back hair and looking icy cool throughout. An on-set image shot by Steve Schapiro was used for the Alabama Song/Space Oddity 45 foldout sleeve. As you may have heard, “The Thing” has been added to the Library of Congress. We made the movie to push against the edges of what we could pull off, and it carries that strain in its bones. Seeing it now treated with the same care and reverence we had making it means a great deal to me and everyone who brought it to life. I especially want to remember TK Carter, who brought heart and humor into that desolate, frozen place and should be standing here with us today sharing in this recognition.  Thank you to everyone who continues to keep it alive.

STATION TO STATION 50TH ANNIVERSARY VINYL OUT NOW “Such is the stuff from where dreams are woven...” On 23rd January 1976, fifty years ago this very day, David Bowie’s Station To Station LP was released. As the headline suggests, to commemorate its Golden Jubilee, the album is issued today as a limited-edition, half-speed mastered LP and a picture disc LP (both pressed from the same master), with a poster reproduction of the UK music press advert used to advertise Bowie’s latest masterpiece at the time.
