@PaulaAubrey2 There is still a regular service from Portsmouth to the Isle of Wight by hovercraft. They can go pretty well anywhere where the terrain is reasonably flat - seashore, marshland, estuaries, wide rivers etc.

@philbanting I think I remember actually riding on/in a hovercraft- from memory in the Swanage/Poole/Bournemouth area (can’t be more precise than that).

I'm waiting for the "war on motorists" thing to make the jump into other parts of society. People adopting a shared identity as "Shoppers" & standing up for people shoplifting or committing credit card fraud. People saying security tags on booze is part of the "war on shoppers".

It'll never stop being funny to me that so many regular people have been duped in defending dangerous & illegal behaviour, that makes them less safe, on basis they are all in some kind of made up club or fraternity of "motorists".

@philbanting @B14News awkward crossing the road, when I went to film the recent snow in rea valley, cartland road there, because none of the traffic lights there were working!.....

It looks as though the disruptive construction work on the road and pavement outside the new Lidl in #Stirchley is at last complete, and the pedestrian lights restored to use. But I don't fancy walking across the store entrance once cars and lorries start going in and out

In 1990, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) accepted aluminium as the international standard, by analogy with sodium, potassium etc. This discussion reminds me rather of the MMDDYYYY format ‘debate’.
