@GrammarTable I would say that "none" is not the same as "no one", even if it started as that. It has come to be read differently, and I think using the singular has become unnatural. Not dissimilar to how "data" has clearly been a mass noun for a long time, but some stick to "data are...".

@GrammarTable A style issue. 1 is more of a headline, or PR/copywriting where you use short, uncluttered sentences. 2 is more body text in a longer or more formal article. But without more context difficult to get off the fence!

@GrammarTable @westsiderag I’ll just add this: However, it was commonly referred to informally or popularly as “Barclay’s” (with the apostrophe) in earlier years, likely because it originated from the family name of James Barclay (who joined as a partner in 1736) and was seen as possessive.

@jolie_marieII @westsiderag Thank you. Barclays isn't actually all that familiar to Americans. I was under the impression, which I can't stop to confirm right now, that Barclays never formally included an apostrophe in the brand name, but I don't know.

@GrammarTable @westsiderag My pleasure! Barclays was once known as “Barclay’s.” (I’m not sure when they dropped the apostrophe, but I’ll try to find that out.) Well, you gave many interesting examples of apostrophe usage; I reasoned that surely you would have cited Barclays/Barclay’s had you been aware.

@GrammarTable @westsiderag Excellent piece! I learned or deduced a lot including, on the flimsiest of evidence, that you do not now nor have ever banked at Barclays.

Are the commas below correct, incorrect, or optional? Research from the scientific journal, Frontiers, published last October said that a 2cm change in a suit represented an extra 5.8 metres in the length of a jump.
