@ryanhasbadtaste I mean not to dwell on the past, but getting bug in your ass that the wrong person is recommending your book is not really a good guy behavior. Decent books though.

@jenny2x4 I mean just reading the book I'm reading at what seems like "normal" pace to me. I don't mean taking my time to make sure she hears and understands every word. That's a different activity.

@plainly_andy I mean that is because you are reading out loud to your daughter, which of course would take longer. Someone recording an audiobook has rehearsed the lines several times and all the pauses are cut so that the listener gets the fastest reading aloud experience possible

@jenny2x4 Like seriously try it. Sometimes I'll read my book out loud to my daughter, and it takes 2-3x as long to get through a couple pages.

@jenny2x4 I think it's pretty broadly accepted that reading out loud is significantly slower than just reading in silence.

Stay away from Minnesota unless you love brutal winters, Trans people, Somalis, Latinos and Hmong people and paying high taxes. If you love all of those things then you are welcome to come. The rest of you ef-off

I don't think anyone has an obligation to, but to claim any of these situations make it impossible is ridiculous.

I think people in every one of these situations could read 1 book in 1 year. Like if you are an illiterate adult, I genuinely believe you can learn to read in 1 year and then knock out like the first Goosebumps novel or something.

@LRNROSE There actually are quite a few. Illness, illiteracy, extreme poverty, etc. but sure let’s pretend everyone has the same abilities and resources to make us feel more superior to them.
