@sorcova_de_corb @cwik_greg I feel bad for talented writers who lean into more abstract or difficult/distinctive styles, the audience for it is pretty small. My style is fairly straightforward, my struggle is more with subject. Most people don’t want to read bleak shit, lol.

No I absolutely am a ‘better and superior cinephile’ because I watch films in other languages. You can’t claim to love an artform if you refuse to engage with the vast majority of it.

Cinephile is someone who loves movies. Someone who watches and loves marvel movies is a cinephile and someone who watches all the artsy movies is also a cinephile Don't think yourself as a "better" "superior" Cinephile just because you watch other language movies

@cwik_greg True, unfortunately. I think it comes down to how much universal appeal a writer has. Not everyone can/wants to read Faulkner or Joyce just for fun, but most people can/will happily read pretty easy middlebrow stuff.

@VK_HM I remember when Hoberman’s Make My Day was published and more than one mainstream review seemed upset because of the Ghostbusters section positioning it as reaganite cinema.

I remember when an AV Club writer said she didn't care for Ghostbusters back in the early 2010s and the commentariat reacted like she'd said the sun didn't exude brightness
