I reedited the book written c. 1720 by Dom Pérignon's apprentice, Frère Pierre Traité de la culture des vignes de champagne situées a Hautvillers, Cumieres, Ay, Epernay, Pierry et Vinay - Frère Pierre d'après le manuscrit transcrit par Paul Chandon-Moët uncorkchampagne.com/wp-content/upl…

Panthalassa built a compute node with one moving part and might be about to produce the cheapest electron on the planet. The thing is a 260-foot tall, 66-foot wide floating sphere. Waves push up on it. That motion forces seawater through a neck 60 meters below the surface into a pressurized reservoir at the top. The pressurized water spins a single turbine. That is the entire machine. One moving part. No tether to the seafloor. No fuel. Each node steers itself up to 30 miles a day to find the biggest waves. Cooling is free, the thing is sitting in the Pacific. Power is free, the waves never stop. Compute runs on board. Queries come in and out over Starlink, which works because the inputs and outputs are kilobytes and the actual processing happens at sea. They claim 2.5 cents per kilowatt hour. Below utility solar. Below natural gas in some markets. One node costs roughly $1M to build. A billion dollars of factory produces one gigawatt of capacity per year. Global electricity demand runs around 3.5 terawatts. They are aiming at a meaningful fraction of that using ocean surface area nobody else is touching. The wildest part is when they started. Ten years ago. Before Starlink existed. Before the AI compute crunch existed. They bet on LEO satellite links, liquid cooling demand, and grid constraints becoming the bottleneck for AI. Three bets that all landed inside the same 18-month window.

So, @_panthalassa operated mostly in secret for a decade. And what it built is nuts. Massive, massive floating data centers that drive themselves out to sea and then capture water inside of them to spin a turbine and power GPUs. Look at these things. @ChrisExpTheNews Homeschooling results have both selection and causation effects, and there are positive and negative homeschool approaches. It's not only doing we activities for many, although many will be.

@raphaelmoras @FistedFoucault @mymoonovski It depends on where you're from in England, and on the individual. It averages out to about 50% Celtic and 50% Germanic, but people in the West of England tend to be more Celtic than Germanic. I'm more Celt than German. But the precise percentages don't matter, i'm just English.

Friends, stop drinking alcohol. Not cut back. Eliminate. > alcohol increases cortisol > disrupts REM sleep > accelerates epigenetic aging > shrinks hippocampal volume > elevates resting heart rate > raises inflammatory markers > impairs glucose metabolism for 16 hrs One drink does that.

5yo doesn't like hot dogs, so we offered to replace the weiner with stuff he does like. I present the orange slices and French fries but no weiner dog:

@raphaelmoras @FistedFoucault @mymoonovski By 1066, those "Anglo-Saxons" were just straight up English people. They're our ancestors, while Normans just feel foreign. And there's been beef between the Norman ruling class and the English ever since. The "Norman Yoke" has been a concept in English nationalism for centuries.
