Brigadier General James Barigye Ruheesi, Colonel David Ocitti Kidega, Major Innocent Kikongo Mugumya, and Captain Kenneth Labwon Kinyera face charges of misusing 270,000 litres of diesel from the Uganda Rapid Deployment Capability Centre in Jinja between July 2022 and December 2023. Arrested in April 2025 on orders from Chief of Defence Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba after a probe into fuel shortages, they denied the charges and were remanded until May 29. The case underscores the UPDF's push against corruption amid high fuel prices, with the value of the stolen diesel hitting roughly 1.35 billion Ugandan shillings.
