So, 1. Yes. 2. An awful lot of this gap could be closed by universities if they undertook systemic reforms of graduate programs to make them shorter and more focused.

@Bali_Maha I've had a *little* success by doing the math. 90% accurate? That means if you use it in a class of 20, there's a 12% chance it gets them all right. That's assuming the 90% is accurate.

I have consistently failed to convince faculty at my institution to not use AI detectors. For some inexplicable reason, knowing it gives false positives and false negatives, and flags non-native speakers writing more often... none of that convinces them. Has anyone succeeded?

@Bali_Maha They don't even need to change the colors as much as the values. Dark red on a bright green, or bright red on a dark green bg also works.

I told someone having red text on green background is inaccessible to some color blind people. They kept the slide with red text on green background. Why? Why do people do that after you gave them an easy to implement #a11y tip?

@alixabeth There are just some words that I just use too much when I'm just writing a draft. Then I just have to do a find and replace and just take them out. I just had hundreds in my manuscript...

@dlaufenberg @kasal_finley Feb 20 is Ohio's registration deadline for the March 19 primary, FYI. Student can vote in either state, but not both.

@kasal_finley It is a choice - Voting absentee with your address *might* be the easiest, but registering and voting in Ohio is also an option (residency requirement is 30 days). ohiosos.gov/elections/vote…

Ok-folx smarter than me, how do you handle college kids voting? The 2024 elec will be my son's first voting opportunity out of state & he will likely be in Ohio. I was planning on having him vote absentee, but I didn't know if he would be able to vote in Ohio? Any info welcomed

i have somehow managed to 'organize' my life such that i need to leave my house at 8:20am to catch a train for a flight that doesn't leave Toronto until 6:30pm. i won't get to my destination until 1:33am the next day...for a conference that is still in Canada. i have regrets.
