For those interested in ASEAN this open access article by Selina Ho and Terence Lee is a must read. Survey-based, it affirms a growing sense of ASEAN identity, something I had argued 25 years ago (& which displeased a few Western experts) in The Quest for Identity: International Relations of Southeast Asia, which the authors duly cite. Elite Perceptions of a China-Led Regional Order in Southeast Asia by Selina Ho and Terence Lee. journals.sagepub.com/doi/pdf/10.117… It also supports my long standing view that lack of regional legitimacy will affect emerging powers' global leadership ambitions.
