@Texans_Thoughts That's a good one. But how would you feel if your first round pick doesn't play a minute of game time in his rookie season (behind Ersery, Smith, Brown)?

I’ve also wondered if Ed Ingram had been a free agent from another team, with the same level of play and the same contract, whether people would feel differently about the move or moves on the day. It feels like many don’t view re-signing a player as an actual signing. I get the psychology of that. I’ve caught myself thinking that way too. We all want new toys, look at free agents & prospects, & want the Texans to sign them. But typically, if you have a good team, you want to bring most of your own players back if the price is right, and that’s something we’ve seen a lot of from the Texans leading up to free agency. I also think the timeline aspect that @MrOptimisticHou alluded to is a factor. It’s not always easy to step back and recognize that in the moment, especially with the uncertainty of what’s ahead, but the timing of moves can definitely affect perception. Ultimately, the perception of these moves will be clearer when the full plan plays out. It’s just hard to project what that will look like right now.

Hot Take: If Reed Blankenship was the first signing at 11:05am Texans fans would of been hyped af. Great signing, at a position of need. This day was tough for fans when we are all watching OL go else where and then the news drops.

@TexansCommenter Love this!!! And they got a deal bc of his slight regression in '25. Love the finances of this off-season so far, all reasonable deals, only bad one was Tytus's that Cleveland signed!

@JohnCrumplerMD I think they bought low after a slight regression in '25, but this is perfect vet in young secondary (he's only 27). And allows more draft investment on offense!

I would have preferred this money go to the offense and let the defensive guru figure it out with lesser guys but… pretty clear that won’t ever be the case here.

Good player who, like everyone else, will thrive in DeMeco Ryan’s defense. Should be a steady presence to place next to Calen Bullock. Defense remains insanely loaded, they’ve never shied away from giving Ryans resources and that doesn’t change this offseason.
Mike Garafolo@MikeGarafolo

The #Texans have agreed to terms with former #Eagles S Reed Blankenship, source said. It’s a three-year, $24.75 million deal with $16.5 million guaranteed in a deal done by Kyle McCarthy at @AthletesFirst.

Joel Bitonio for $10m APY or less makes the most sense to me at LG. Floor is a reliable solid veteran starter with potential for pretty good play in more of gap scheme than years past. Allows you to still draft an understudy or potential starter in early rounds.
Houston Stressans@TexansCommenter

David Edwards off the board at 15.2M APY. Left guard options left: Joel Bitonio Elgton Jenkins (trade/cut candidate) Isaac Seumalo Teven Jenkins

Right move. Reward your own, build the power run identity, keep some continuity and at a solid $ Best young (ish) IOL on the market after McGovern was gone 2.5/5 OL starters ✅ (Trent is a .5 imo)
Ian Rapoport@RapSheet

Sources: The #Texans and standout G Ed Ingram have agreed to terms on a 3-year, $37.5M deal to keep him in Houston. Ingram gets $12.5M per year in a deal done by @AgentNicoleLynn of @KlutchSports. A priority for Houston, getting it done before free agency.

Can you imagine if the Spurs drafted Knueppel instead of Harper? Even if Harper ends up better long-term, there's no denying Kon's elite shooting, versatile scoring, creation, and intangibles would've lifted San Antonio to another level today. Kon is already a top 50 player.

@Cody_Stoots How do we know it's not on CJ? What if he still has the talent but he's A SECOND SLOW. Has he studied and mastered this offense? All it takes is one second to miss a route, to get forced to a bad read, to be behind the defense. He's not dictating, not throwing lasers.

The offense looks archaic. C.J. Stroud said he’d watched some early 2000’s New England Patriots film. Other players have mentioned familiarity to Bill O’Brien’s offense. Todd Bowles said it looked Patriot-y. Nick Caley has been a huge disappointment through three games.
Ian Hartitz@Ihartitz

The Nick Caley Texans experience is NOT relying on play-action or pre-snap shift/motion. Texans play-action rate 2024: 26% (13th) 2025: 16% (32nd) Texans pre-snap shift/motion rate 2024: 61% (6th) 2025: 48% (19th)

@Texans_Thoughts CJ has been bad this year (yes, everything around him has been bad). Epitomized by the short pass to Kirk in the flat that the Jags challenged. Ball got out way too late, should have been there for Kirk to fight for first down. CJ needs to anticipate and laser, too rare this year

This is ultimately on Nick Caserio When the whole operation is this bad, the biggest decision maker needs to be held responsible He’s had some good moments here but bad coaching hires, horrific OL management, wasting Stroud’s talent and rookie contract = hot seat imo

Takeaways: - Stroud not anticipating throws as well as rookie year. Not hanging in pocket to make throws while hit - Nico being wasted, often not first/second read - Route concepts are unimaginative, motion rarely used to advantage + Higgins and Noel getting open when they play
Jacob@TexansJacob

Every C.J. Stroud dropback vs the Buccaneers yesterday: There’s just too many easy misses in here especially with a pretty good start. There are still bigger issues on offense than 7 but there’s no excuses for some of the things in here.

@Djbienaime CJ was not good. He did not play like a top 10 QB. It wouldn't be fair to put him in top 15 so far this year. Yes, OL and run game are bottom 5, but CJ has lost to two better QBs so far.

Noteworthy quote from DeMeco Ryans on the Texans offense failing to score a touchdown on the goal line. "We went to try to throw the ball. Thought we had some matchups. I thought we had opportunity to hit Nico in the corner. The ball was out of bounds."

I do think Houston’s offense has a chance to legitimately improve over the next month and better gel the play calling to personnel strengths. Just not sure the improvement will be meaningful for team ceiling when *that* is your starting 5 on the offensive line #HTownMade

Mike Cardona@Michael98503154

@TheFinalQuan Sochan has done absolutely nothing to warrant being a starter much less ask for an extension. The opposing teams don't even guard the dude. Completely disagree. He is an 8th man at best. U will see. Olynyk and Kornet will absorb all his minutes by Dec.

@EricSal_7 Here's a big what if... what if he agrees to take less (a lot less?), and agrees to a three year deal, in exchange for... a no trade clause. He really doesn't want to get shipped off. Would he take 3 years, $145M? 140? He turned down $155/3 yrs. How low could we go for the NTC?

Just four days away, D Fox becomes eligible for a four-year max extension worth up to $230 mil. With Harper now a Spur, Spurs FO may want to protect their flexibility against a scenario where both Harper and Steph take meaningful leaps into fringe or full stardom within the next 1–3 years. That kind of rise would naturally demand an increased share of usage and offensive responsibilities — and it could happen sooner than expected. If it does, Fox’s role and production would likely taper off, not due to a lack of talent, but because of a shifting team dynamic. And if that dynamic unfolds while Vic is entering his prime, Fox’s contract could quietly become a long-term negative asset — which is exactly what the Spurs will want to avoid. Fox is clearly valuable in the present — but a bridge type of situation could realistically be a real reality rather than a foundational piece for the next 5+ years. That wasn’t the original intent, but with Harper and Steph’s growth now a real possibility, the Spurs should consider building flexibility into the deal. A wise approach? Structure the extension with a 25–30% max and a 5% descending salary year over year. That way, Fox is still paid like a star, but his contract scales down in case his role does too — preserving both his market value and the Spurs’ flexibility. 4/180-190 would be a nice win/win imo. Example: 30% Max Descending 5% with cap at 161 mil in 26/27 2026–27: $48.3M 2027–28: $45.89M 2028–29: $43.47M 2029–30: $41.06M 4 years / 178.7M Versus: $230M under a standard max with 8% raises. Why would Fox do this? Fox still gets to play where he wants, on a competitive timeline. - Texas has no state income tax — saving him 24M ( in the 4/178 deal) compared to what he would get to take home in the same deal in Cali. In this spot, Spurs preserve cap space to pay their young core (Wemby, Steph Sochan, Harper, Bryantetc.) when the time comes. - A front-loaded deal keeps the window open without handcuffing future roster moves. I’d be surprised if the Spurs offer the full $230M max with 8% raises. Many are hell bent saying it likely was already agreed to. This team values cap flexibility too much and they can’t afford to get in a tough situation with 60+ mil salary on the hook for a few years in the beginning of Vics prime. A front-loaded descending max still honors Fox’s talent, while hedging intelligently for what’s clearly becoming a dynamic, evolving young roster.

@TheFinalQuan The opposite of positionless is: Putting three guys who play one position on the court together. They're all good, but not positionless, can't shoot or play off-ball well. And the true opposite of positionless is a guy who can't play one position well (Sochan).

@TheFinalQuan The problem is BW doesn't understand what positionless bball is. Positionless means can play multiple positions well. Guards create, wings shoot, bigs handle the post. Do two or three of those and that's positionless.
