This is my last post that feeds this algorithm. I joined Twitter to learn from others in ways I could not do without it. If a restaurant in my city was owned by someone like Musk, I would NEVER eat there. I'd always choose elsewhere. srmarcon.bsky.social

Q: How much harm does BS from Rogan et al do? A: A ton. And it is immediate. Gibson's off-the-rails promotion of ivermectin as a cure for cancer (legitimized by Rogan) resulted in a spike in searching. This likely included many cancer patients. Cancer misinformation is cruel

Now this clown says ivermectin is a treatment for pneumothorax? As a pulmonologist, that's insane. I can't believe I have to say this but, if you have a pneumothorax don't take horse paste! I'd say this guy should lose his medical license, except he already did, back in 2017.

During Joe Rogan’s podcast on January 9, Mel Gibson promoted drugs that are not scientifically proven cancer treatments. Misinformation on cancer treatment is dangerous, cruel, irresponsible and gives false hope to people with cancer and their loved ones. Researchers around the world dedicate their lives to uncovering the best cancer treatments. Surgery, radiation and approved cancer drugs like chemotherapy are safe and proven to stop cancer cells from growing and spreading. Choosing to use an alternative therapy can have serious health effects, such as the cancer spreading or getting worse. The Canadian Cancer Society provides credible, independent, trusted information on cancer treatments, in easy-to-understand language. You can find this at cancer.ca or and we are also available on chat or by calling 1-888-939-3333.

@VPrasadMDMPH Why put "the left still" in this tweet? Why include a mention of masking? Isn't this about cancer and ivermectin?

When anyone searches for information on cancer treatment options - you shouldn't see ads for scientifically unsupported treatment, or ads targeting people who have exhausted their treatment options. Our new study (unfortunately) finds this is occurring misinforeview.hks.harvard.edu/article/google…

@KAcnb87 @drdagly Hydroxychloroquine was relentlessly promoted in the US, in large part by Trump and those in team Trump. Hydrox never had good evidence for efficacy. And it still doesn't.

@drdagly This is blatant lying. If this is true why do other countries prescribe it to help fight off covid symptoms? And it works

A drug with no antiviral benefits and a known side effect profile of cardiac arrhythmias given to patients who had Covid myocarditis caused increased mortality. This is why trials exist and the benefits must exceed the risks. thehill.com/policy/healthc…

Harmful cancer misinformation circulates across all digital platforms. This study demonstrates how compelling, emotional narratives surrounding alternative care misleads users on TikTok. cc @CaulfieldTim @liz272 @srmarcon jmir.org/2024/1/e60283/

Everyone knows you can drink an alcoholic beverage & be fine. Everyone knows you can’t do that with rubbing or wood alcohol. Why? They’re different chemicals. Ethanol ≠ isopropanol ≠ methanol. One alcohol is not the same as others. Use this logic for ALL chemicals. 1/

5 basic principles of science that you know. Explained using photos of cats. 1. Correlation is not causation. Just because the cat is sitting in the hole doesn’t mean it caused the incident. In science, we must separate coincidence from causality.
