@WillHayCardiff If there are approximately 700,000 people in North Wales, you could give them over 5.5k each and still have some change from 4bn. That would be a lot of train journeys to London, albeit slightly more slowly.

I see this argument made quite often and it was actually one of the points made by the UK government under the Conservatives in favour of defining HS2 as “England and Wales”. It is correct to say that if HS2 goes all the way to Crewe, it will make it slightly quicker for people in North Wales to get to London. There are a lot of points I could make but for me the most important is that the idea that the only way for Wales to be prosperous is be able to leave it more quickly and go to London is so retrograde. Infrastructure in Wales desperately needs investment. At the very least we should get what everyone can see we are owed. £4bn is a hell of a lot of money to get people from north Wales to London faster. We could transform the Welsh network with this.
