Since 2010 the number of associations in the GWAS catalog has doubled roughly every 21 months! An increase in an order of magnitude every 5.75 years!

The world’s largest collection of full human genomes has just gone live. UK Biobank — a repository of health, genomic and other biological data — today released complete genome sequences from every one of the 500,000 British volunteers in the database go.nature.com/3uLA03m

There is an update on the credential stuffing incident at 23andMe. The company have now submitted the relevant papers to the US Securities and Exchange Commission. 0.1% of accounts were affected which equates to about 14,000 users. techcrunch.com/2023/12/01/23a…

Combining with All of Us and TOPMed, I think, the number of whole genomes touches a million. Unfortunately, the US-based biobanks are not accessible to worldwide researchers as easily as UK Biobank.

This officially marks the beginning of the era of population-scale whole genomes. The number of genomes of non-Europeans might look tiny compared to that of Europeans, but note, that for some ancestries like South-Asians (n=10,000), it's the largest number sequenced to date.

If everyone throughout history had interbred randomly, the collection of their genes would be of a uniform consistency. They have not and it is not. Instead, it is like lumpy gravy, or a chunky stew rather than a puréed soup. There is structure concealed within it that can be revealed, and your own DNA can be related to that structure in all sorts of interesting and informative ways.
