"I would hope it's going to help our children and our grandchildren, and future generations" Hear from our participants Lorraine and Mel on why they're part of UK Biobank.

🧬@UK_Biobank makes a huge contribution to science. Its research has the potential to detect Parkinson’s sooner, and tackle heart disease. This week @michelledonelan visited Manchester Science Park to officially mark the future site of UK Biobank’s new £75m centre.

Nice study showing real-world value of polygenic risk scores when integrated with other risk measurements (still work to do on balancing ethnicity of participants - as they note)

Combining with All of Us and TOPMed, I think, the number of whole genomes touches a million. Unfortunately, the US-based biobanks are not accessible to worldwide researchers as easily as UK Biobank.

If everyone throughout history had interbred randomly, the collection of their genes would be of a uniform consistency. They have not and it is not. Instead, it is like lumpy gravy, or a chunky stew rather than a puréed soup. There is structure concealed within it that can be revealed, and your own DNA can be related to that structure in all sorts of interesting and informative ways.
