Regardless your name is it or not common law applies after 6 months and all the appreciation of the house while your together you will be entitled to 50% of the appreciation of the property his down payment most likely will be his and fair enough .. but to a court you are 50/50 regardless what you contribute ..

My boyfriend and I are planning to buy a house together after dating for 3 years. He earns significantly more than I do, so he’d be contributing about 70% of the down payment. Because of that, he wants the house to be only in his name. He says it’s just “fair” based on the numbers, but we’d both be living there, splitting bills, and building a life together. I’ve been watching a lot of relationship content about equity vs equality, and it made me realize things don’t always have to be 50/50 but this feels like I’d have no security at all. He said if we ever broke up, he’d “do the right thing,” but that doesn’t really reassure me. My friends say don’t move in unless my name is on it. His friends apparently think I’m being entitled. Now I feel stuck between trusting him and protecting myself. Is this a red flag I’m trying too hard to rationalize?

I am the man in this position right now. It is three years in, and I am asking why I feel taken advantage of, why my needs aren't being met in any way, why my home feels like a tornado went through it everyday and why I am the doing and paying for everything. I am asking why I am paying tens of thousands of dollars for someone to be my "roomate"... She is becoming someone that I feel I cant trust anymore, someone that I am beginning to feel very real resentment against - NOT because she dosen't pay for anything - but because she is emotionally disconnected, she is self-serving, she shows me disrespect in public and even at my own table in front of guests and strangers and she refuses to partcipate in any kind of home life or home keeping with me at all. I pay for everything. I clean everything - I do it all here. This is a relationship that I regarded up till only recently that was my greatest achievement and the relationship I was the most proud of for me and for her. Without any effort or care on her part, the whole thing feels like a torpedo plunging into the water and there is nothing I can do to stop it. If that man is queening you up, and he is giving his all my advice to you is to stop talking, stop posting your shit on the internet and take care of him the way he deserves. He sounds like me and that means that he already adores you, he is already completely devoted to you for him to even consider such a potential with you. You better show him very quickly what his sacrifices mean to you...or you should pack up your shit and leave today. It seems to me that there are two women here have a choice to make today and I would hope they both make the sensible one. Here's me holding my breath...

And the answer is nuanced. I say this as someone who works in reproductive medicine. Unless you go through all of the caveats, there is no simple answer.
