I recently covered this in a lecture/Q&A I gave to a University of Toronto class: Bitcoin depends on freedom of compute. If people can't run code of their choosing, the ability to run nodes and use wallets will be taken away in the name of "security".

So Iโm slowly losing control over my Mac computer. @apple has apparently removed my ability to run unsigned apps. Iโve had to run a command to kill a โgatekeeperโ service, then changed system settings, and it still simply refuses to open the app. It used to be a simple right click. Iโm going to have to figure out how to downgrade my OS, because this is nonsense. How TF am I supposed to do anything if I canโt run applications that arenโt from the App Store? We live in the age of vibe coding you fools. You have become the very big brother that Apple began as a response to. You are trying to control what I can do on my own hardware in my own home.

This is a really important point.
Apple has intentionally degraded the functionality of billions of dollars worth of phones for absolutely no legal reason at all.
